  • Family-run site on the edge of a peaceful Holderness village
  • A 10-minute drive from Withernsea; Spurn Head 15 minutes
  • Just over half a mile from the coast and spectacular clifftop scenery
Heading to Holderness for a camping holiday? A bright idea indeed, as this peaceful part of the East Riding coast has spectacular scenery and is dotted with an array of pretty villages. Right in the middle of it all is Elm Tree Farm, a relaxed site in the quiet village of Holmpton. Location isn't everything, though, and Elm Tree Farm has a fair few other perks worth noting. For starters, the fact that the site is family-run (and by a dog-friendly family at that) means that you can expect a laidback, uncommercial approach to camping here. The facilities are in good shape too – a well-equipped washroom is on hand with a hot shower, toilet and washing-up facilities, plus little extras like a fridge and microwave that guests are free to use. It's kitted out technologically too, with USB ports for easy phone charging and free wifi across the whole site. Hot breakfast sandwiches can be ordered the night before for a tasty boost come morning, and on-site chickens mean fresh eggs are often available. Elm Tree Farm holds a full license and can introduce you to a wide range of local craft beers and ciders either on your pitch or in the site's gorgeous garden. Withernsea (10 minutes) is down the road for supermarkets and takeaways, while the popular village of Patrington (10 minutes) has award-winning fish and chips and cafés.

Liked: Gina was absolutely lovely, she really goes beyond for her guests, we stayed on pitch 5 and there was plenty of room for our tent, the ground itself is brilliant, like a little community. There is breakfast available if you order it the night before. The animals were lovely to see on the farm. There is a quiet time between 10pm and 10am which was really nice. Pets are allowed, we took our dogs and they loved it aswell. It does have beach access which is about 10 minute walk to which wasn't a problem at all although I will say I'd ask Gina for directions. I will be returning. Thank you Gina

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: A beautiful, quiet, and friendly family-run campsite. Great location - close enough to walk to the cliffs/beach whilst, being in a peaceful village set back from the coast, not being vulnerable to high winds. Brilliant facilities - having access to a washroom with kettle, microwave, and washer/dryer was really convenient. Nice clean toilet and shower facilities too! The site itself is good for families - set back from the main road down a lane, with not too many pitches so the children can play in the open space. Gina - our host - was friendly, responsive, and offered useful local information. We particularly enjoyed the breakfast butties and local beer on sale!

Liked: Great location only a few miles from Withernsea and close enough to the cliffs to walk and watch the tide coming in . Great facilities, all clean and fully stocked , there was even a mini library and a handwritten local bus timetable to Withernsea on the wall .

Powered grass campsite

Liked: A small quiet site only a few minutes drive away from Withernsea and about 30 minutes from Spurn Point. The staff are very friendly and are always happy to have a quick chat. 2nd time staying at the site this year, glad to say the weather was a great improvement on our previous visit. Great to have electric points at the tent pitches, this is something lacking at plenty of other campsites.

Liked: Gina was a great host. She took time to go through the site with us and the 2 or 3 rules...(dogs/bins and bbqs). She was great giving us little places to go and visit and was very welcoming...we even met dotty the chicken, Norman the dog and my hubby got to see her vehicle collection. No light or noise pollution, no loud yobbos spoiling the area. Very quiet and quaint little area to stay. All you heard was the trees blowing and the chickens. Super trip and super host in a lovely location...little hidden gem!

Disliked: We didn't feel like we stayed long enough to really enjoy the benefit of the peace!!

Local attractions

Pitching up here means being within striking distance of the sea pretty much throughout your stay, whether you're wandering down to the nearest cliffs (half a mile) or heading to further off spots like the windswept shores of Spurn National Nature Reserve and its discovery centre (15 minutes' drive) or the classic seaside resort of Bridlington (an hour). Also by the coast, Withernsea (10 minutes) has a range points of interest that ought to keep you amused for a good few hours, with an intriguing inland lighthouse that stands in the centre of the town and well-maintained amenities at the Pavilion Leisure Centre, where you can take a dip at the pool or work up a sweat at the gym. Further afield, Hull's Museums Quarter (40 minutes) will be of interest to anyone interested in archeology or William Wilberforce and the abolition of slavery. While in town, the kids won't want to miss the sea creatures housed at The Deep aquarium; if they've still got energy to burn after that you can always take them ice skating at the Hull Arena.
