  • Spacious dog-friendly Yorkshire Wolds site in Driffield
  • A 25-minute drive from the coast; less than an hour from York
  • Close to walking trails and railway station; bus stop just outside
Can’t quite decide between the coast and the countryside? Why not have both, at the East Yorkshire site Camping on The Wolds. Handily placed on the outskirts of Driffield in the low-lying valleys and chalk hills of the Yorkshire Wolds, this dog-friendly site is also 25 minutes’ drive from the coast, with the sandy shores of Skipsea, Hornsea and Bridlington all within 30 minutes’ drive. From spacious grassy pitches, you can take in the views that inspired arty types like David Hockney, head out onto Yorkshire Wolds Way or the Minster Way or go for a townie wander in Beverley and York and gaze at their massive minsters. Leave the car behind if you wish, as there’s a bus stop just outside the site and a train station 10 minutes’ walk away in town. Tuck into a meal here or consider checking out other nearby country pubs. Maybe make off for a Michelin-starred meal at the Pipe and Glass in Beverley, if you want something a little fancier. If you’d rather stay put on your pitch, that’s fine too. Grab supplies from one of the independent shops or supermarkets in town and get the barbecue going for alfresco dinners. Either way, the site has your basics covered: there are purpose-built toilet and shower blocks along with a washing-up area behind the main shower block.

Local attractions

Buckets and spades at the ready… Bridlington (25 minutes' drive), and Scarborough (35 minutes) have all the action of a seaside promenade combined with soft surf. For a more secluded spot on the sand, head to the more remote Skipsea beach (25 minutes). Don’t forget to pack your binoculars as you can spot auks, gannets and other seabirds at Flamborough Head (35 minutes) or RSPB Bempton Cliffs Seabird Centre (35 minutes). For another leisurely activity, there’s a golf course (five minutes) with a discount for guests. Forests and dales await at North York Moors National Park (45 minutes). And when you want a break from the outdoors, the historic Burton Agnes Hall (15 minutes) reignites Elizabethan living. It’s a warm companion to the Georgian country house at Sledmere House (15 minutes), where you can let yourself get lost among maze-like landscaped gardens. In need of some shopping or sightseeing therapy? York (50 minutes) and Beverley (20 minutes) both have mighty minsters and markets to mosey around.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: Site brilliant for children plenty of space to play - mine went down to the stream and explored. We were three families all sited together
Nice big pitches and very quiet
Staff lovely

Disliked: Facilities not the best very basic no plug sockets to use hair dryer (no mirrors was the biggest downside for me)

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Apologies, we have to keep removing the mirrors when we have events at the site..........doh, we forgot again to replace them for our campers, although there are small fixed ones in the showers.

Really lovely site, great for the price and would definitely recommend

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: Friendly welcome and quite a wide check in window.
Site warden couldn't do enough for us, had lots of information and leaflets about local area including places to eat, local amenities and upcoming events.
Pitch was nice and wide with gravel area to park the car.
Pre-warned about hard ground so we were able to get correct pegs in advance.
Had toilet and shower facilities as well as drinking water and pot wash area which were all grouped together near to us and kept clean.

Disliked: £15 per night was quite expensive for a tiny firepit
Water in showers and pot wash were scalding hot

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback, so pleased you love the site. Sorry the fire pits were small, but we do have to buy the logs in to prevent people helping themselves in the woods, therefore try and keep it small to keep costs down.

Excellent site with everything you need. Lovely location too.
