  • Well-maintained holiday park set around a 12-acre lake
  • A quarter of an hour's drive from Hornsea beach; Hull 30 minutes
  • On-site restaurant; paddleboard, kayak and pedalo hire
There's a lot you can do when you stay somewhere with a lake. Holidays at such a spot can be as peaceful as they come, or you can opt for a break that's all about sports, outdoor activities and messing about on the water. So it's no surprise that both choices are on the cards at Dacre Lakeside Park, a well-maintained site on the edge of the East Riding village of Brandesburton. The pitches here are set around a spectacular 12-acre lake, which, as well as being scenic, is a hub for all sorts of outdoor antics. With kayak, paddleboard and pedalo hire, this spot caters to a whole range of holidaymakers on the hunt for a pleasant park near the Yorkshire coast. Bert's, Dacre Lakeside Park's on-site restaurant and takeaway, is also close by in a scenic location overlooking the water. Other leisure facilities on offer here include tennis courts, pitch and putt miniature golf and foot golf. The reception building has a bar, table tennis, pool tables and a beauty salon too, all of which are a short walk away from a spacious and secure beer garden. Dacre Lakeside Park is a pet-friendly spot, and dogs are welcome to join you on breaks here throughout the season. Guests bringing a four-legged friend won't be short of places to take them for walks, as this site is a 15-minute drive from Hornsea beach and within easy strolling distance of plenty of paths and trails.

What customers say

This well-maintained campground gets high marks for its family-friendly vibe, roomy spots, and lovely lakeside setting. Guests love the many activities, especially watersports, mini-golf, and footgolf, plus the clean facilities and helpful staff. While a few noted occasional bar noise, most found it clean with good staff. Despite wanting more amenities like a shop, the overall feedback is very positive, with many planning return trips.

Liked The break away

Disliked The state others on site left the toilet/showers. Paperwork in toilet block wasn't upto date or the blocks weren't checked?

We all brought our swimsuits & floats & bodyboards but wasn't allowed in lake ??

Liked Location was good
Pitches were large
Dog walking area

Disliked State fishing on-site but if camping it is from a boat launch where you will have to avoid Watersports people and cast far out due to shallows
Very loud! The bar was playing music till nearly 12am
Bathrooms and toilets were filthy and when we went for a shower at different points of the day we never got any hot water.
Inconsiderate people onsite up talking till 2am
If you go and get pitch 21 ask to move it’s right next to the toilets, dog walking gate which is loud and the bar.

Liked Good flat site and location. With good on site activities and play area for the kids.

Disliked At check in I was told where the pitch was and given a list of the site rules. However it is clear that the owners do not want to enforce the site rules. So then change them so people know what they are walking in to if they book to stay here. We booked this as it is advertised as a family site and it was right in the middle of the school holidays. Every night there were very loud drunk groups of adults screaming, shouting and singing at the top of their voices around their tents, way past midnight and into the early hours. But while the bar is adjacent to the tent field and is playing loud music and karaoke until midnight you can understand why campers don’t follow the “quiet time” rules. Also the site needs to decide if fire pits are allowed or not. Their rules say “not” but again lots using them and no one pulling them up for this, so would have liked to have brought ours.

Liked We had a really brilliant stay here. I love the trees at the back of our tent which provided shade during the hottest time of the day. Kids had lots of activities/play as well. The nights were quiet and peaceful. The facilities were well kept. We'll pitch again anytime soon.

Liked Loved the place. Everywhere is beautiful and so much for all age groups. just a shame some Staff dont know the rules and one person on the watersports was beyond rude with us, infront of children.
Gentleman and lady on reception was great, very helpful, and really lovely.

Disliked Gentleman on water sports was very very rude! Staff dont know the rules. We were told the first two days it was absolutely fine to fish by 3 different people so the kids did. We booked an extra night because we enjoyed it so much, then was told the last day they actually aren't sure if we are allowed to fish but we could because we already had been. Seems like no one new the rules because some were saying yes some Staff were saying no. Very upsetting as this was one of the reasons we booked the place as it clearly states we are allowed to fish and after seeing a review saying someone wasn't allowed and before even booking we phoned and they clarified it was fine to fish because we were staying on the site we just needed a licence which we purchaed. We were planning on coming back for a few days in the upcoming weeks but not sure we will if fishing isn't an option as its something the oldest two children like to do.

Liked We used to have a caravan on Dacre up to 6 years ago. We love how the park has changed over the years. More activities for children is great!
We were camping overnight this time with friends. The field is good now you're allocated a pitch number, with plenty of room per pitch. Its not overcrowded! The toilet block on the camping field is a great addition.

Disliked Having the toilet block on the camping field is a great addition, however at 11.30pm they hadn't been cleaned since 8am. There was no toilet paper, so people had been using the few paper towels that were left as toilet roll and had therefore blocked the toilet. The showers were near useless, you cant call it a shower more like a constant drip, and were freezing. This definitely needs sorting out.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked We've been to Dacre Lakeside for the weekend closest to the 11th August, for the past 4 years.

Pitch sizes are great, toilet/shower block is close to the field where you pitch up and gets checked throughout the day.
There is enough space between pitches for the kids to play. There is also activities on site for the family to enjoy.

Staff are friendly and helpful - in particular Craig (site/bar manager) who has always helped when we've had a question or problem. If we've had to raise an issue over the years, staff have always helped and dealt with it quickly - whether that be food or camping related. (Even issues we've had with local takeaways - Craig has helped where possible).

We have seen new improvements made to the site, each year we've been. Whilst we do not have a dog, the site is very dog friendly and they have an enclosed area for the dogs to be able to go off the lead. We've always found families with dogs to be respectful towards those who don't. There are new shower/toilet blocks on site.

Bett's restaurant has a lovely view of the lake. We've had some lovely food there but our favourite has been the pizzas from the pizza truck near the bar.

We've not accessed the lake activities yet but they all look fun and you can see plenty of people enjoy them.

Disliked Over the years, we've found the showers have been temperamental with their heat but it's always been sorted when we've mentioned it.
This year, the site has had a problem with moles, so the ground was not in as good a condition as previous years but we have always been impressed with the ground we have pitched up on in previous years. This wouldn't deter us from returning another year.

Liked Absolutely loved this place. Enjoyed it so much we booked an extra night.
So much to do for all ages. Usually struggle with having kids with such a big age gap. But this place is perfect for kids of all ages. And was really relaxing on a night. Our tent was near the toilet so that was great, toilets and showers were pretty clean too! Reception staff were all amazing. So so friendly and very helpful.

Disliked Nothing at all i disliked about the place. We enjoyed our 3 nights.

Local attractions

If, after trying all the sporty facilities on site, you still haven't had your fill of outdoor life, you might like to spend a few hours on the greens at Hainsworth Park Golf Club (five minutes' walk), an attractive parkland course where there are 18 holes to play with. A little further afield, you can let the coast at Hornsey (15 minutes) and Bridlington (25 minutes) provide you with bucket and spade days, or head to The Deep (30 minutes), a huge aquarium in the centre of Hull, to find out what's swimming beneath the surface… It takes about an hour to get there, but the spectacular Spurn Heritage Coast – affectionately known as ‘Yorkshire's very own Land's End’ – is also well worth visiting for its birdlife and rugged seascapes. Dacre Lakeside Park is a well-connected place, so you can easily get out on day trips to handsome historic sites like the centre of York (an hour) or Castle Howard (an hour), one of the North's grandest stately homes.
