A few pitches

  • Friendly site with rural views 15 minutes' drive from Consett
  • A short walk from the Waskerley Way trail for walking and cycling
  • Spacious pitches with access to heated shower block
A warm welcome awaits at Bonners Lodge, where chief of staff Raffi the cat oversees a small team of humans, dogs, horses, pygmy goats, alpacas, a donkey and a Shetland pony at this friendly family-run site. Officially it’s Ken and Michelle that own the place, but there’s always a helping hand from canine pals Sam, Bess and Charlie… Make the five-minute drive from the A68 and settle yourself in for a hefty dose of peace and quiet: pitches have splendid views over the surrounding farmland and woods, all part of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The plots have been deliberately well spaced to give you plenty of room, so it may be that your nearest ‘neigh’bours will be horses Rosie and Rusty in their paddock. Well-behaved dogs and human folk are invited to explore the miles of walking paths that lie beyond; you need only amble across the adjacent field to join the Waskerley Way. Kids need not even stray very far to let off steam, as they can just wander over to the site’s play area for a bit of swing and slide action. Everything you need for a comfy stay has been supplied here – a cosy, heated and modern shower block includes useful bits and bobs like hairdryers to keep the travelling barnet in check.

Bonners Lodge is a small, peaceful site with friendly hosts and spotless facilities. Guests loved the spacious pitches, fun game room, and farm animals. Enclosed pitches are great for dogs/kids. Some noted few toilets, but most found them clean with no waits. Beautiful rural views.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Beautiful little site, Michelle, Ken and friends are so so welcoming and have gone above and beyond to ensure your stay is a great one!
If you've got little ones who love animals, this site is for you!
The owners bring the animals to the caravan field every morning to allow families time with the animals, you can walk them around the park and maybe even get a donkey ride!
They have a room with a pool table and some seating areas that is always lovely and warm, its great to have somewhere to relax and meet the other folk on the site.
Kids are really well catered for with an indoor games room, toys outside, you name it, they've probably got it!
We will definitely come back to Bonners Lodge!

Shower was nice and big in a heated room (dont often see that) and wasn't a press button shower! Facilities always clean!

I cannot praise Michelle and Ken enough for what they do with the site, very hands on, very friendly, great people!

----------

One side note for visitors coming from Bishop... dont let you sat nav take you down West Lane on route to the site, its unnervingly tight and an unnecessary detour!

Liked Everything! Greeted by very friendly staff who recommended the best pitch although gave us the choice then gave us a guided tour of all facilities and introduced us to all the animals. Very good for children with steps and pottie seat in ladies as well as a well equipped games room. Beautiful views will definitely stay again.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Wonderful hosts they made us feel extremely welcomed, saddling up the donkey so my two babies could have a ride (aged 2 and 3) as well as allowing us in the enclosures to pet the sheep, Pygmy goats, Shetland pony and doggies Dixie and Jack. My 3 year old particularly loved walking pixie the pygmy goat and has not stopped talking about it since! The facilities were perfect in particular the play room and the park which again our babies loved. We felt very at home and will definitely be back to stay on this extremely picturesque place. Thanks for having us. ☺️

Liked Everything!
What’s not to like?
It’s peaceful, the pitches are a decent size, the views are stunning, being around the animals is something I don’t think you’d get anywhere else, there’s a heated shower room (which is immaculate), games room and Michelle is a fantastic host.
We didn’t want to leave!

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Absolute peach of a site. Secluded location overlooking agricultural land. Excellent facilities. Spotless toilets and shower block with plenty of hot water. We stayed on a serviced pitch, im not sure whether all pitches are serviced though.
Lovely welcome from Michelle, the owner, who showed us round.
The neighbours are lovely too, (goats, lamas, horses and sheep).
Another one added to our list of go to places.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked We enjoyed our 1 night stay at Bonners Lodge. We were greeted, given a site tour and shown to our pitch by the friendly owner.

Pitch was level with lovely views over the farm and beyond.

Toilets and showers were spotless and warm.

We didn’t use the games/tv room but we did see 2 young lads enjoying a game pool while we washed up in the kitchen area. We didn’t use the kitchen other than for washing up but there is a microwave and cooker for guest use.

Good WiFi signal.

Disliked Nothing to dislike - other than wasps, that the site have little control over!!

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Fantastic location, very quaint, pitches excellent, well spaced, and wind protected. Toilets and showers exceptionally clean and well serviced. And the games room is a huge bonus for entertaining yourself and has fridge, freezer and cooking and washing up facilities which was fantastic and a real extra. Hosts very friendly and helpful showing me around all the services. Oh and WiFi too.

Disliked Nothing to dislike. I'd really like to thank Michelle and Carol for their help. I was using this short trip to try out my new camping kit, as want to get back into it as part of my bucket list. That's hoping I make it to next season, as a current cancer sufferer I desperately needed to occupy myself with positive activities and thoughts and they both seriously helped with that, without knowing. So a huge thank you. You meet kind people every day.

Local attractions

Make the most of your rural location by getting your walking boots on or taking to your bike to hit the trails that crisscross this scenic area. Getting to the Waskerley Way requires you only to cross one adjacent field, and then you can join this route across the moors, past the Waskerley and Smiddy Shore reservoirs and to Hownsgill Viaduct, towering 46 metres above the woodland canopy. Other fab walks can be had around Derwent Reservoir, 20 minutes away; you can dangle a rod into the water here too, to see if you can snag one of the lake’s trout (rumour has it they can weigh up to 20lb). Cyclists, meanwhile, can find some top routes at Hamsterley Forest 25 minutes away, or get their pulses racing on the downhill tracks at Descend Bike Park (25 minutes). For family-friendly attractions, head to Hall Hill Farm 15 minutes away, for lots of furry adventures riding the donkeys, feeding the llamas and watching the sheep race, or take a trip on the steam trains of Weardale Railway, 25 minutes away. Within the same distance is the famed Beamish open air museum: bag 25% discount tickets for this before setting off from the Bonners Lodge team. Also 25 minutes away is Diggerland Durham, where kids of all ages (even ones who sometimes claim to be grownups) can drive lots of different vehicles… and take lots of pics of them doing so too.
