  • Sleep in a restored 18th-century barn with thatched roof
What a barn! Snuggle down in style at this Norfolk countryside site in the Waveney Valley, in a restored 18th-century barn with thatched roof and traditional local architecture, roomy terrace, and spacious ensuite rooms – with fluffy towels – all ready for your arrival… And the setting? Pretty handy too, as it's on the Norfolk and Suffolk borders, about 18 miles from Norwich and centrally located for most of Norfolk’s attractions including the famed Broads. The market town of Harleston is three miles away. Wortwell Hall Barn is also half a mile a mile from the village of Wortwell within a small hamlet accessed by a private road, and deep in the countryside of East Anglia, with sailing, fishing, boating, swimming and golf all easy to find nearby. London Liverpool Street has trains running to the local town of Diss, 10 miles away, within a journey of about an hour and a half. For supplies and services, a pub and a garage are in the hamlet of Wortwell; the Georgian town of Harleston has shops, banks, restaurants and a health centre.

Local attractions

This is lovely land for active sorts, with the boating of the Broads available within about 12 miles, and leisure facilities locally including golf and swimming at Bungay and Diss, and sailing and fishing in Harleston and Bungay. For wildlife watching, book a boat safari on the Broads, or go birdwatching around the heath and marshlands of Walberswick and the coastal reserve of RSPB Minsmere, with visitor centre, buggy-friendly paths and longer trails for the less encumbered. Beach? Suffolk coast sands such as Southwold, Aldeburgh and Lowestoft are all under 20 miles away, for sights such as the colourful beach chalets at Southwold, the lighthouse at Lowestoft and the old buildings of festival town Aldeburgh, where freshly landed fish are sold most days on the shingle beach. For a spot of history, have days at Framlingham and its castle overlooking the mere, the ancient keep at Orford, and the cathedral, castle, city hall and other esteemed old piles of Norwich.
