A great group pitch
Shaded areas
Shade from trees
Two of the four oaks

  • Off-grid and eco-friendly farm site 15 minutes’ drive from King’s Lynn
  • Sandringham Estate 10 minutes’ drive; Brancaster Beach 35 minutes
  • On National Cycle Route 1; a pub is 10 minutes’ walk from the site
Simple, spacious and quiet… the pitches at Four Oaks Camping are just that. This East Anglia farm site is an excellent choice for wildlife-loving individuals and families. Back to basics and rural, it’s in a remote corner of North Wootton village, yet still well-connected to local attractions and historic locations such as King’s Lynn (15 minutes’ drive), Sandringham Estate and Castle Rising (both 10 minutes). Based within the Norfolk Coast National Landscape, the site has mighty-fine views over the open skyline. Environmentally respectful facilities provided include composting loos, solar electricity, mains water for drinking and (alfresco) washing, wash pails and eco-friendly soaps. This is an off-grid site, so don’t expect mains electricity or chemical disposal points. Firepits are permitted and handily, the site sells logs sustainably sourced from the local area. What else to expect? Group bookings and space for events can be arranged, and well-behaved dogs are welcome too. If you’re in need of a snack, the local pub is 10 minutes’ walk from the site and there are shops selling essentials within a couple of miles.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked This was a very quiet and secluded place. There was no light pollution, so it’s perfect for night skies.

The owner was pleasant and welcoming. The facilities were kept clean, but very rustic. It was perfect for a couple of nights stay.

There are plenty of places to visit locally. I would be happy to recommend this place.

Recommended if you’re looking for a nearly wild camping experience!

Local attractions

The immediate area has plenty of pleasant trails for biking, including cycle-friendly tracks and traffic-light country lanes to attractions such as the mighty 12th-century keep at Castle Rising (10 minutes’ cycle on National Cycle Route 1). Longer bike jaunts might include the ride through flat countryside to RSPB Snettisham nature reserve (50 minutes) to see oystercatchers and dunlin flying over the marshes. The Norfolk Coast National Landscape offers coastal marshes, cliffs and dune systems to explore on foot, as well as a variety of beaches from the often-deserted dog-friendly stretch at Heacham South (25 minutes) to the bucket-and-spade vibe of Brancaster Beach (35 minutes) or the undulating dunes at Holkham (50 minutes). Inland, you can spy on the lifestyle of the Royal Family on a visit to the museum at Sandringham Estate (10 minutes), wander graceful parkland and admire the vintage car collection. There’s more heritage to be found in historic King’s Lynn (15 minutes), a handsome Hanseatic port town packed with Georgian mansions.
