  • Pop-up wild camping on the edge of West Dereham in Norfolk woodland
  • Ely or King’s Lynn 30 minutes' drive; Old Hunstanton Beach 50 minutes
  • Off-grid site with lots of wildlife; shops and pubs 10 minutes’ drive
Ready for some honest-to-goodness wild camping? With pitches in a diverse young woodland with open grassy clearings and mown paths? Right on the outskirts of the pretty Norfolk village of West Dereham? If you answer ‘yes’ to all three questions, then the pop-up Rosehip Wood Wild Camping is the spot for you. Here you can pitch up surrounded by trees and lush greenery, watch the abundance of wild birds, look out for deer and look forward to the sunset on clear nights. Thanks to the lack of light pollution, you can also observe a night sky full of stars when weather conditions are right. Walks along the River Wissey are close by, so there is no need to walk on any roads at all to admire the full-on open skies of Norfolk. As befits proper wild camping, facilities are on the scant side. A compost loo, mains water and picnic tables are available on the camping field, but there is no hot water for showers and no electricity – be prepared for the latter and pack torches and batteries for any wanderings after dark. Handily, Downham Market is only 10 minutes’ drive away, just in case you need supplies or feel like a pint in one of the town’s historic pubs.
