  • Dog-friendly Cambridgeshire site with 12 acres of meadowland and lakes
  • A 25-minute drive from Cambridge and 35 minutes to Ely; access to A14
  • Carp and coarse fishing lakes; restaurant and kids' centre
What will you reel in first? With carp and coarse fishing on site, and the surrounding Cambridgeshire countryside, it could be a big catch or a haul of memorabilia… or photos of otters and swans at local nature reserves or all the family in front of a mighty cathedral. Set over 12 acres of meadowland and with two small mature fishing lakes on site, Crystal Lakes Caravan Park is a secluded family-friendly and dog-friendly site that's still within reach of a couple of urban areas: it's 10 minutes’ drive from Huntingdon and 25 minutes from Cambridge, with easy access to the A14. Eggs sunny side up or burgers by the bun? Find whichever option gets your tummy rumbling 10 minutes’ walk away in Fenstanton village centre, which has a butcher, two general stores, bakery and newsagent. There are also shops selling fresh garden produce and free-range eggs, an excellent fish and chip shop and a village pub. If you need to work up an appetite for all that food, hit the nearby cycle paths or public footpaths (there are over 600 miles of public footpaths around, as well as the RSPB reserve at Fen Drayton Lakes). Facilities back at base include spacious toilets and showers and hand basins, all supplied with free hot and cold water. Kids can play games, run about on the recreation field or sign up for various antics at the activity centre on site (entry charge applies as this is run by a different company). And of course fishing will surely keep you busy… there’s a small daily charge for that, with carp, tench, pike, bream and others to hook out of the two lakes.

What customers say

Well-kept site, spacious spots, peaceful vibe, known for its lakes & location. Toilets/showers are clean but a bit dated. Friendly staff. Some road noise & wash block cleanliness issues mentioned by a few. Great for exploring nearby.

Powered grass and gravel campsite

Liked Toilets were clean and functional with plenty of toilet rolls , handwash and paper towels.

Disliked It’s really hard to describe this site . I felt that whilst the photos of the site aren’t inaccurate as such they don’t quite reflect the overall vibe of the site . There are a number of permanent pitches and some of these don’t do the site any favours in the way that they are presented.
We were staying 4 nights and on the Saturday night it felt as though more caravans and tents were squeezed onto the site in-between pitches. Despite this it wasn’t noisy and campers were all nice and well behaved.
As mentioned in other reviews , there are separate sections of what I think are contract workers who use same facilities. I didn’t have any issues with them but it just changed the atmosphere for us personally.
Could do with some dog waste bins around the place to encourage people to do the right thing.
In fairness we weren’t fishing so I can’t comment on that , maybe that changes things for people.
For us it didn’t meet expectations and I wish I had heeded the comments in the reviews I read.

Liked Lots of grassy areas to walk the dogs, however see the "disliked"

Disliked Whilst there are lots of grassy areas, most of it is covered in poo, which was not nice. The site itself is quite tatty in areas and the facilities urgently need an overhaul.

Site says facilities are cleaned daily, however we found them to be very outdated and scummy in areas. Also, I really don't understand why people can't think to invest in a duster for ceilings. There were cobwebs and spiders older than we are living up there.

Also, the site in the evening smelled massively of wacky backie, which we are assuming from the clearly residential vans as the other tourers moved regularly.

Would we stay again? Absolutely not. We even left the site early, losing money in the process.

Primitive grass campsite (large)

Local attractions

Martini or tonic? Pick your poison at the Roundwood Distillery (20 minutes’ drive), where gin is the speciality. Beforehand, line your stomach with goodies sourced from the local market town, Huntington (10 minutes). Welcome to cathedral city… Ely (half an hour) is known as much for its rosy-cheeked gin as it is for its sky-high cathedral and stained glass museum. The cities are pretty imposing here, as Cambridge (25 minutes) is full of learning… master the art of punting on the river Cam or eye up modern art at the museums. Switch modern artefacts for jumbo jets at Britain’s largest aviation museum, Imperial War Museum Duxford (25 minutes). Then, bring things back down to earth at Houghton Mill (15 minutes), a National Trust site with tea rooms, canoeing and cycling at the final remaining mill on the river Ouse. Less for canoeing and more for wildlife spotting, RSPB Fen Drayton Lakes (10 minutes) harbours more waterways, frequented by otters, geese, ducks and swans.
