Grass pitches

  • Simple Cambridgeshire farm campsite 15 minutes’ drive from Royston
  • Imperial War Museum Duxford and Cambridge both half an hour’s drive
  • Peaceful grass pitches with hot showers available; livestock on site
Prefer somewhere off the beaten track? The camping field at Eastgate Farm may only be 15 minutes’ drive from Royston and half an hour from Cambridge, but both places seem far, far away from this peaceful spot. Just a handful of level grass pitches are available on the small farm site, with no-frills facilities stretching to a shower and toilet, washing-up sink, water fill-up and waste disposal. Barbecues are permitted on the camping field (you’ll need to bring all the gear with you), and you can stock up on groceries in the supermarket at Royston. If you’d rather have a complete break from cooking, there are several pubs within 10 minutes’ drive, or you could make a night of it in Cambridge restaurants. A few practicalities now: as this is a rural working farm with livestock, please expect the sights, sounds and smells of a farm. The camping field is off-grid, so remember torches for night-time meanderings, and while the site is level and flat, it can be wet in early winter.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Quiet site with views over a field of sheep, reasonably priced for a tent pitch. Nice sized pitch separated by longer grass.

Disliked Facilities weren’t great - only one loo had soap, very low loo roll supplies. Pipe leaking in one of the cubicles, both loos a bit manky, shower was not clean at all. Washing up station was cold water only. I reported the leaking pipe and the contact given said ‘thank you’ but nothing was done about it.

This is a cracking little site not far from Duxford and Cambridge.…

Primitive grass campsite

Liked This is a cracking little site not far from Duxford and Cambridge. The pitches are large and well maintained. There are a couple of toilets and a shower. It's quiet and peaceful with just a little bit of noise from the lambs in the next field. Rebecca and Nick are welcoming and friendly. It's dog friendly and campfires are allowed. Will definitely be back.

Great place to stay.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Lovely large pitches. It's on a farm and in the country so some animal smells. Great to see the sheep and lambs playing. Lots of birds seen overhead. 1 toilet and shower in small unit. It's a small lovely site, very friendly and helpful. We will be back. Lovely Central location.

Will return again

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Quiet flat pitch with plenty of space. Good shower and toilet. Nice views, friendly owner. Just what we needed for a one-night stopover.

Disliked Campsite is alongside a road. Might disturb tents close to the hedge but didn't both us on the other side of the field.

Nice little site but be aware of road noise.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Its a nice simple camping site with generous sized level pitches. Facilities (2 toilets, 1 shower and a washing machine are more than adequate for the 10 pitches. There is no through traffic so children can play safely. The couple running it seemed very helpful and friendly. Located on a working farm.

Disliked The road, whilst just a B road, is nevertheless used quite regularly in the morning and evening and the noise is quite intrusive as cars are going quite fast.

Lovely and clean site…
