Spacious pitches
Camping field

  • Very peaceful camp site with only red kites and rabbits around.
  • A 30-minute drive to Ludlow; 15 minutes from Tenbury Wells shops
  • Peaceful grass pitches on a hilltop site, with real-ale pubs nearby
If you’re after total peace and quiet, this could be the spot for you. Hanley Orchards is a small and friendly wild camping site in the little village of Hanley Child in Worcestershire – and well-behaved dogs are welcome too. If you potter around quietly on site, you’ll probably catch sight of the resident red kite circling overhead. With glorious views out across the Teme Valley from the hilltop camping field, you’ll really get that off-grid, alone in nature vibe (although a toilet block is part of the deal too). Out and about exploring the Teme Valley (there are routes for walkers, cyclists and drivers), you’ll be rewarded with magnificent views across to the Welsh Marches and the rugged hill of Hay Bluff. There are cute, half-timbered towns like Ludlow to explore, and an abundance of defence castles along the Welsh borderlands to investigate. Secluded Hanley Orchards may be, but it’s actually only 10 minutes’ walk from the village with its selection of excellent foodie pubs, one with a microbrewery producing Worcestershire real ales. At 15 minutes' drive, the market town of Tenbury Wells is your closest bet for shopping, with delis and fishmongers as well as a decent-sized supermarket.

What customers say

This is a well-maintained, peaceful campsite with stunning views and friendly owners. Facilities are basic but clean. Some guests found the single shower/toilet a drawback, and the sloping pitches can be challenging. It's ideal for a quiet, back-to-basics getaway.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The friendly neighbours
The peacefulness of the area
Well kept and clean

Disliked The wind
Feel it would be better if had more than one toilet as it was not that busy but at times was waiting long time for shower or toilet due to others using it.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked This was a great little site. Good location and very reasonable pricing. Great views and not far from local towns. The site is on a slope so campers and caravans with levellers should be ok. We were in a folding camper and once levelled had no problems but tents might find it a bit more awkward. Facilities are basic but cannot complain for what we paid. Owner was friendly and helpful. We will almost certainly use again.

Disliked Not much.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Clean environment, beautiful views, friendly owner, laid back, not too crowded.

Disliked Only 1 facility for shower and toilet in same room, therefore there could be a queue at times. Road coming in was very uneven so not appropriate for all vehicles as my car got scraped a couple of times when going up to the site.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked • nice view
•peaceful
•field with cows next door but no noise or smell so not a problem

Disliked •small field with a house at the bottom. Felt like we camped in someone’s garden.

•field is on a slant. (Kept slipping in the tent and tables etc sliding to one side)

•only 1 toilet and shower in a wooden shed. Toilet and shower itself was clean but the shed was dirty covered in dead bugs, spiders and cobwebs.

•shower water kept turning cold

•there needs to be a silent time as drunk campers were shouting and playing loud music until 2:00am

•lots of mud patches and holes in grass

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Great place, nice and remote, quiet. Toilets were adequate for size of site. Will book again. Didn’t meet anyone from the site but there was no need as all self explanatory. I’m sure if any issues arose they would be easy to contact.. amazing views too

Disliked No info that I saw in the description about the site being on quite a slope. I did manage to get somewhere near the top of the field so ok for the night we stayed as not very busy.. luckily.

Power optional grass RV campsite

Liked The views, sun rise n sets, nice location and quiet.

Disliked Only 1 toilet, not the cleanest, no toilet paper at all over the time we were there.
Water taps in the field not easy to get to, as there we're 4 large tents, guide ropes, campers equipment surrounding the area, causing tripping hazards, accident waiting to happen!!
Simple solution, Mark the area out with signs, and a path in and out of the area to provent the owners paying out!!!

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Out in the open, plenty of field for the kids to play, within minutes to the closest small pub (delicious Sunday dinners!) and within 20/30 mins from everywhere else if needed.

Disliked We couldn’t get the shower to work, just giving out freezing cold water. Nothing else to dislike.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Neil was amazing. Really accommodating. As we were a big group he opened up another field for us so we could spread out and not disturb other campers. Very much appreciated by all I’m sure!
The countryside is stunning and we would highly recommend!

Disliked BBQ needs some love and attention.

Local attractions

If you've brought the dog, the National Trust-owned Brockhampton (20 minutes’ drive) has wonderful walks (lovely in spring when the bluebells are out), while Witley Court and Gardens is a spectacular ruin surrounded by formal plantings and woodland paths. It’s also worth checking out Ludlow (30 minutes), with a half-timbered, medieval town centre packed by pubs and restaurants, and riverside Bewdley (25 minutes) has pretty Georgian houses, traditional pubs and arty shops overlooking the Severn. Here, you can jump on a steam train for an expedition on the Severn Valley Railway between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth. You’ve had your fun, so treat the kids to theirs. You can’t go wrong with the high wires at Go Ape Wyre Forest (20 minutes) or spending the day at West Midland Safari Park (45 minutes), spotting lions and zebras in drive-through compounds and riding coasters in the family-friendly Adventure Theme Park. Another hit with the kids might well be the annual Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb (15 minutes), if you’re here in August.
