  • Small and friendly site based on a working dairy farm
  • On the edge of Cannock Chase; 15 minutes' drive from central Stafford
  • Local pub, farm shop and pick your own within a two-mile radius
There's a lot to like about breaks on this working dairy farm near Stafford. For starters, Moors Covert Farm Camping is on the edge of the Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a 26-square-mile playground for walkers, cyclists, horse trekkers and outdoor activity types. The site is also next to the Staffordshire Way, so head for this neck of the woods if you're looking to wander far and wide. This back-to-basics spot likes to keep things simple and straightforward. There's ample space on these well-kept grounds for guests and their gear – just turn up with your pals, kids or bikes and let the good times roll. About two miles from base there's also a top-rated pub; head along here to get those good times off to a flying start. The folk that run this place do their best to keep you sweet with their locally produced honey; they also sell free-range eggs and other supplies. Got a taste for home-grown grub? Head to the local farm shop, about a mile away, for more farm-to-fork goodies. There's also a pick-your-own down the road where you can pluck the plumpest-looking pumpkins when they're in season. Looking to stock up at a proper supermarket or grab a takeaway? Drive 15 minutes down the road to get to Stafford city centre.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked We loved eveything about our stay , the information they provided on nearby pubs and things to do, the information on what times cows ade milked so we could watch . Everyone we met was very friendly and we even gor to stroke their horses. We liked how their was a gate so the kids were enclosed into the field without a worry.

It seems a great little site if you have young children, being secure.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The fact that it was a working dairy farm. Being able to see & get close to the many cows. The milking staff were very friendly & helpful during milking times. The site was secure with a "close the gate behind you" policy.

Disliked Not being greeted on arrival (I heard later that the owner/farmer was away). Another camper had to advise me where to set up etc. The general rubbish bin filled very quickly, with rubbish bags being left on the floor. The othe 2 bins "tin & glass" or "paper & card" were OK. The site advertised as a " small 1-10 pitch site, with no setting up after 8pm" on one night had 13 tents on site, with two cars turning up after 9pm. One car (pitching next to us) arrived about 9.30pm & tried to put up their tent & set up camp using the head lights on their running car for quite some time. There also seemed to be a stream of families arriving with children to visit a pitcher already there. Only to leave later that night (after 10pm). I'm estimating at least 15 small & young children running around on site at any one time. No kind of grounds person or staff seemed available or on site to deal with any issues. One of the 2 toilets was unpleasant to use, due to (I think) the large volume of people & children on sight.

Liked Small campsite with only around 7 others this visit. Facilities excellent were. Flushing loos, small room to use a kettle, fridge and wash the dishes.
Next to a working farm and you will hear the cows mooing along.
Good value for money we may well revisit.
We visited Cannock Chase and the Woasley nature reserve. Plenty of places to visit nearby.

Liked Beautiful site with lots of lovely views and walks. Perfect for a lowkey, relaxing camp. The workers there were so friendly. It was lovely to be so close to the cows and be able to interact with them and the baby calf’s.

Local attractions

Moors Covert Farm Camping is a peaceful spot, but it's also well connected: Junction 13 of the M6 is close by, making it a doddle to zip from north to south and back again. There's much more to life than shopping – this is the countryside, after all – but when the sales are on at Trentham Shopping Village (30 minutes' drive down the M6) they can be pretty hard to resist. There's also a monkey park here, a little fact that may well help you bribe the kids to come along… For outdoor adventure, make tracks for the off-road Segways for rent at Birches Valley (10 minutes). Here you'll also find a visitor centre to help you get your bearings and a Go Ape where you can survey your surrounds from above. For more time in the open air, grab your rod and make your way over to Calf Heath reservoir (15 minutes), a well-stocked carp lake. There's also a recommended riding stables on the Chase (five minutes) – trot down here if you'd like lessons, treks or just some time in the saddle.
