Canal boats in the marina

  • Peaceful 20-acre marina location in the Staffordshire countryside
  • A 10-minute drive to Lichfield; 20 minutes to Drayton Manor Theme Park
  • Barbecues and picnic tables provided; short walk to a dog-friendly pub
Whether it’s picnics looking out over the marina or lazy mornings walking along the Coventry Canal, there’s plenty of scope for peaceful activities at Kings Orchard Marina in the middle of the Staffordshire countryside. This is a pretty marina location with 20 acres of space, all landscaped and maintained to a high standard, with a marina basin for views and a canal, narrowboat hire and local pub 10 minutes’ walk away. For any keen explorers, the icing on the cake might be that historic Lichfield is 10 minutes’ drive to the west. That means you can explore the medieval city’s 12th-century cathedral, market square and the Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum by day before heading back in the evening to use the site’s food prep area to build a barbecue spread on the grills provided. Handily, there's a food shop under five minutes' drive away. The free-to-use barbecues and picnic tables dotted around the site are useful facilities for those quality times. As for features of convenience, Kings Orchard Marina also has toilets, showers, waste disposal and an Elsan unit. With the Staffordshire countryside on all sides, walk to your heart’s content, but don’t forget that real ales, traditional pub fare and a beer garden await at the local dog-friendly country pub alongside the Coventry Canal. This place, 10 minutes’ walk away, is a good spot for those of you who have brought dogs on your holiday.

What customers say

Kings Orchard Marina gets kudos for friendly staff, quiet vibes, and a great marina-side location with canal walks and a pub. Pitches are typically good-sized, level, and clean, with warm, clean facilities. The bumpy access road is a major drawback, though some found facilities dated and experienced occasional noise or trash issues.

Liked Large pitches, nice and flat full gravel area
Segregation by bushes and a grass boarder. Facilities on pitch perfect.
Pub 15min walk along canal towpath, lovely food booking required for weekends.
Welfare facilities clean, with plentiful hot water.

Disliked Approach onto site not nice, bins overflowing with rubbish, waste alcoves over flowing with bottles and cans. Maintenance yard littered with rubbish and old wooden storage sheds. Payment of £20 for a key deposit, refundable) to enable use of facilities and to gain access onto towpath.
All grass areas need cutting, grass at least 6’’ long and all bushes require trimming.
No general stores on site or within walking distance. Torch required to walk on site at night.

FHU gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked We had a really lovely stay here. It’s a small, friendly campsite with good-sized, level hardstandings, which made setting up nice and easy. Each pitch has its own hook-up and water, which is always a big plus for us.

The chemical disposal points are well set up and easy to use, and the toilets and showers (shared with the marina) were clean and perfectly decent.

One of our favourite things was having a wander around the boats and along the canal towpath, it’s a really peaceful spot. We also enjoyed a trip to The Plough, which is about a 20-minute walk or a quick drive, and well worth it for a nice local pub meal.

It’s in a great location too, with easy access to Lichfield, Fradley Junction and other nearby places to explore.

All in all, we really enjoyed our stay, it’s a well-run, welcoming site and we’d happily come back.

Disliked We did see some of the negative comments before arriving, but honestly, none of them really reflected our experience, so we didn’t let them affect our stay.

The only small thing we’d agree with is the bin situation. There don’t seem to be quite enough of them, or they’re not emptied as often as they could be. When they get a bit too full, especially if it’s windy, it can make parts of the site look a little untidy.

That said, it was only a minor issue for us and didn’t take away from what was otherwise a really enjoyable stay.

Primitive gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Beautiful location. Lovely views and wildlife. Nice walks with a pub a short distance away. Short drive into Lichfield which is well worth a visit. Very competitive lpg prices for swapping gas bottles. Friendly staff.

Disliked Only one fresh water point we could find which was very close to another pitch and had a non standard connector. No drive over grey waste drain or specific grey waste point. Some dodgy roads and difficult roadworks to work through as the A38 is blocked for crash barrier work and a section of HS2 is being constructed nearby (though hardly any noise).

Liked Site itself was peaceful
Toilet block was nice and warm with plenty of hot water
The road into the site has been repaired and is now quite good a vast improvement on previous road
Been here a few times and will continue to return

Disliked Works on the A38 has resulted in all traffic in the area using the road past the site and is an absolute nightmare trying to get to site towing a caravan
Overnight works nearby going on all night with heavy machinery
Not the site’s fault for this

Liked Nice large pitches. The electrics are linked to the water supply so it’s very convenient.
The shop was convenient and the facilities were clean and accessible with a great pub within walking distance along the tow path (which the loo key also unlocked)

Disliked The office insisted that I get a key for the loos and showers with a £20 deposit which went off my card immediately. I’m still waiting for it to go back on my card almost a week later.

There were some travellers who were staying at the same time as us on the site and the police were called (they may have overstayed I didn’t enquire) Lots of shouting and threats and nothing done.

We booked the site in January and asked to camp with another family. This was sadly impossible apparently even though the booking was months in advance.

The WiFi was incredibly spotty even though they use this as a selling point (and one of the reasons I booked this site).

We decided to up sticks and go before our time was up as we weren’t particularly enjoying the atmosphere on site after one family had a stand up yelling and screaming argument at each other on the Friday morning.

Liked Second time here in recent weeks- took a friend along this time with his motor home.
Nice clean hot shower. Good location for popping into the lovely city of Lichfield.
Will definitely visit again.
Great to see the access road is being improved and repaired( I know it’s not their responsibility)

Disliked Nothing really.
