  • Family-run dairy farm and fishery with views over The Roaches
  • Short drive to Alton Towers, Peak Wildlife Park and Tittesworth Water
  • On-site farm shop and farm animals; 10 minutes' walk to two local pubs
Set on the southern edge of the Peak District National Park, Brooklyn Grange Farm is a back-to-basics site on a family-run dairy farm surrounded by gorgeous Staffordshire countryside. The scenery here is varied indeed, with views over quiet fishing pools, grassy meadows and the spectacular rocky ridge known as The Roaches. You'll also be well placed to sample local produce at this small-scale site – you can head to the farm shop, which sells eggs, bacon, sausages, cheese, barbecue meats and other goodies, or grab a local ice cream, milkshake or fresh milk from the on-site Milk Barn. You're welcome to light up a barbecue, as long as it's kept off the grass. If you don't have your own, there are firepits for hire (a cash deposit is required) from the farm shop and kindling and logs for sale. There's also a village pub and carvery around 10 minutes' walk away on the edge of Thorncliffe (with another around 10 minutes' walk away in Blackshaw Moor). For more flavours, try Leek (five minutes' drive), a local market town with a good range of restaurants, cafés and food shops. After a trip to town it's back to the countryside, where you might like to try a spot of catch-and-return fishing at one of the site's well-stocked ponds (for an extra fee; you must have an Environment Agency licence; no fishing available during the spawning season, which is generally in late May and/or early June). You could also take yourself off for a hike in the national park (a mile away), where there are many miles of well-mapped trails to explore. As for facilities, Brooklyn Grange Farm has functional and well-maintained toilets for guests. There is one shower available here (bookable for an extra charge at the farm shop), or you can take the option of travelling five minutes down the road to Brough Park Leisure Centre.

This working farm campsite has beautiful views and a relaxed vibe. Guests love the farm shop, friendly staff, and farm animals. It's a great base for hikers. Facilities are basic but clean; some noted few toilets/showers and muddy spots. Management is working on improvements.

Primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Beautiful remote site. Lush green grass on a field that sweeps down to ponds with views of hills in the background. The shop is brimming with local produce. Facilities basic but good. Lovely to see chickens cows donkeys and sheep roaming around freely. Owner was very welcoming and helpful. I had a peaceful stay and would definitely return.

Disliked It wasn’t nice to see one of the cows being encouraged back after a bid for freedom. The man sat on his mini tractor nudging her back legs repeatedly when she was already walking fast in the right direction which must have hurt her. I thought unnecessarily cruel.

Primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The shop and feel of the site was nice and the staff were lovely.

Disliked People were allowed to play music loudly until 11pm (there was a sign in the shop swing quiet by 11pm) which I thought was a bit late, particularly with how many families were there. I don’t mind some noise and chatter till late as it’s part of camping (thin walls) but blasting songs out at top volume was awful. The toilet in the toilet block could definitely do with checking more regularly as well because it did get a bit grim and we didn’t dare brave the portaloos in the heat.

Primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lovely views over the lake and hills & spacious pitches, it was fully booked when we went and it didn’t feel like you were too close to eachother. We loved the onsite milk barn & enjoyed watching the animals in the field from our pitch. The staff in the shop were also super helpful & kind! Overall really enjoyed our stay & would come back!

Disliked As a couple we both used the shower twice and on both days it was mostly cold & just a dribble, which is understandable for being on a same, however when you pay for usage you would expect a hot & running shower. Only having one shower for the whole site wasn’t too great either, but was fine for a short stay.
