  • Family-run dairy farm and fishery with views over The Roaches
  • Short drive to Alton Towers, Peak Wildlife Park and Tittesworth Water
  • On-site farm shop and farm animals; 10 minutes' walk to two local pubs
Set on the southern edge of the Peak District National Park, Brooklyn Grange Farm is a back-to-basics site on a family-run dairy farm surrounded by gorgeous Staffordshire countryside. The scenery here is varied indeed, with views over quiet fishing pools, grassy meadows and the spectacular rocky ridge known as The Roaches. You'll also be well placed to sample local produce at this small-scale site – you can head to the farm shop, which sells eggs, bacon, sausages, cheese, barbecue meats and other goodies, or grab a local ice cream, milkshake or fresh milk from the on-site Milk Barn. You're welcome to light up a barbecue, as long as it's kept off the grass. If you don't have your own, there are firepits for hire (a cash deposit is required) from the farm shop and kindling and logs for sale. There's also a village pub and carvery around 10 minutes' walk away on the edge of Thorncliffe (with another around 10 minutes' walk away in Blackshaw Moor). For more flavours, try Leek (five minutes' drive), a local market town with a good range of restaurants, cafés and food shops. After a trip to town it's back to the countryside, where you might like to try a spot of catch-and-return fishing at one of the site's well-stocked ponds (for an extra fee; you must have an Environment Agency licence; no fishing available during the spawning season, which is generally in late May and/or early June). You could also take yourself off for a hike in the national park (a mile away), where there are many miles of well-mapped trails to explore. As for facilities, Brooklyn Grange Farm has functional and well-maintained toilets for guests. There is one shower available here (bookable for an extra charge at the farm shop), or you can take the option of travelling five minutes down the road to Brough Park Leisure Centre.

Primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked We really enjoyed our stay at Brooklyn Grange Farm.
There were lovely views around the lakes and we loved to see the animals.
The farm shop was great and we would recommend their milkshakes as well as their burgers, sausages and duck eggs.

Disliked We thought that the shower could be improved, as on the first occasion that we booked them, the person before us came out 10 minutes late into our 15 minute slot and the hot water had run out. We did however come on a Bank Holiday weekend and so the shower would have been busier than usual.

Primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Had the best stay over bank holiday. Was very busy but not over crowded. Had the pleasure of seeing a calf being born and the owner was super kind and let us go in and have a closer look, one lady brought a baby lamb out to see us too! The animas are well looked after and was lovely to see if you like farm life. Especially seeing the cows walking down the lane in the morning to the field. Ground was flat enough, facilities were very basic but adequate, the farm shop was well stocked and lovely meat and bits and bobs available, will definitely be back again.

Disliked Shame that large groups are aloud as they could be a bit loud but of course depends on who's there at the time. Wouldn't let it put you off.

Primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Location is perfect for White Peak.
Decent fields, relatively flat / level if you get to choose your spot early.
Shop is well stocked if a little pricey

Disliked No management of noise from large groups, drinking and making noise after 11pm curfew, well past midnight.

Lack of decent washing facilities (no hot water)
Very limited shower facilities
Limited loos / portaloos

For further agreeable outings, head to the Churnet Valley Railway (15 minutes) or the Manifold Valley (10 minutes) and Thor's Cave (20 minutes). You could go hiking and climbing at The Roaches (10 minutes), visiting Lud's Church (10 minutes) as an add-on. And where else to set your sights on? Trails Day (20 minutes' walk), a centre where guests can learn to ride a trial bike, or Tittesworth Reservoir (10 minutes' drive) for watersports and walking, and Madrenaline Activities (15 minutes) for archery and axe-throwing. Rudyard Lake (15 minutes) has a miniature railway too. A bit of luxury?
