What customers say
This adult-only site offers a serene lakeside setting with great walks. Guests rave about clean facilities, a social area with a kitchen, and friendly owners. Spacious, private pitches connect you with nature. Some pitches can be sloped & cell service is spotty, but most plan to return.

Liked The communal area is fantastic, and the main part of the site is really beautiful. The walks you can access directly from the campsite are a massive plus - the area is stunning.
Disliked First time camping here and my husband and I were checked in by Ingrid. She started off by giving us a list of local walks along with info about the communal area - all great. She then proceeded to tell us that there are multiple fields for camping, and that we can choose where we want to pitch.
We then got in the car and tried to access the non-electric field through the main site, but the gate was too small for a car to fit through. So we drove all around the main site again incase we had missed somewhere, but we still couldn’t find a way on. We ended up finding a pitch with no electric point (that we could see anyway) right at the end of the main site.
After setting up, we went out for a couple of hours and not long after we had returned Ingrid and her husband parked their van by us as they were doing the rounds with fire pits and logs. Ingrid got out and we thought she was going to ask if wanted a fire pit, but instead asked us if couldn’t find a place to pitch on the other fields as we were set up on an electric pitch.
We apologised saying we didn’t realise it was electric as we couldn’t see any sort of hookup point and that we didn’t know how to get onto the main field, but before we could properly finish our sentence she cut us up and said, ‘well I did explain’ in a really abrupt, rude manner.
We were taken aback by the way she spoke to us, and again we apologised saying we couldn’t see any sort of electric point so didn’t think it was an electric pitch. She then said bluntly ‘it’s ok, I’ll let my husband know’, got back in the van and drove off.
It really put a dampener on it for us.
We only found out how to access the other fields by someone else staying there the next day (you have to leave the site and turn further up the road, which Ingrid did not tell us, otherwise we’d have done it!)
Another thing to note, there are only two toilets and two showers for men, and two toilets and two showers for women, each with one small sink. It is in no way big enough to accommodate the size of the site. One shower had a much smaller area to get changed in than the other so it was a bit of struggle to get dressed, and having a small sink to try and clean teeth/wash face was pretty impossible as you were in the way of people wanting to wash their hands.
All in all, if you’re staying part of the main site, it’s beautiful, quiet and the area is fantastic. I just think Ingrid is abrupt and we found her to be quite rude. It’s put us off returning.

From the manager: HI Laura
Firstly I would like to apologise as my intent was not to appear rude to you in anyway.
On reflection there appears to be some confusion as the non electric pitches are separated from the electric pitches situated in a different zone , but is accessible from the road from were you came in. The entrance that you thought was narrow is a pedestrianised access point for guests to use.
Ourselves go to great lengths to provide guests with information regarding the site in general for pitches and were they are, facilities and surrounding area were you were given a map that illustrates Colemere and canal walks.
We were experiencing a busy weekend and have limited electric pitches which were fully booked. There is signage for placing of pitches by the pedestrianised entrance also. As you had put you tent up on an electric pitch we expressed it was ok to stay there!
We would also like to clarify there are six toilets, with five showers n site that are cleaned regularly throughout the day, we monitor queuing during busy periods and address complaints, there were no queues or complaints raised .

Liked Site was beautiful, the toilets were so clean and the communal area was lovely! Couch’s, huge tables, cooking area, TV. The site is in a great location with amazing scenery all around for nice walks. Staff were great, drove round every night checking if anyone needed wood for their fire pit. Had a great time there

Overall a great experience and plan to stop again.
Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked Lovely quiet location, stayed for the weekend but wish I had another day or 2 to explore and relax, its located just on a lake which was tranquil and picturesque, hosts seemed nice, explained the site and provided a map of places to walk or drive with a varied selection.
Disliked Can only speak for non electric but the field i was in most pitches were on a sight slope, not drastic enough to really affect the experience but enough to prop my cooking table up a couple inches.

Liked Beautiful area, we stayed Monday to Friday and were the only campers with a tent on the electric hookup. There were a few others dotted around the camp. Nice clean toilet and shower facilities. A central hub with good cleaning facilities, sofas, fridge, microwave, toaster and kettle should you need these. Friendly hosts on site.
Disliked None to note.

Liked Huge field we could pitch anywhere, such a peaceful site. There was a pop up bar on the Saturday night selling local beer, cider and wine, that was really good after a walk into Ellesmere during the day.
The communal area was so well thought out, kettle, microwave etc even cutlery etc. if anyone had forgotten their own.
