  • Luxury shepherd's huts on a 270-acre farm just outside Thame
  • Blenheim Palace and Oxford within a half-hour drive; fishing on site
  • Private wood-burning hot tub and chiminea area for each hut
Rural Oxfordshire is a lovely place to spend a bit of time – there are lots of excellent walks and bike rides around, plus plenty of big attractions when you want a different kind of day out. And it gets even better when you stay at Abbey Farm, because you can finish each day off by soaking in your own private wood-fired hot tub… Pick one of the cosy shepherd’s huts here and you’ll be staying at a 270-acre farm, five minutes’ drive from Thame and easily accessible from the A418 (and with the M40 about 10 minutes’ drive away – hugely handy for those seeking a quick escape from London or Birmingham). Travelling on public transport? Haddenham & Thame Parkway station is about four miles away, and there’s a bus stop at the end of the farm’s drive for services to Oxford, Thame or Aylesbury. Rural activities are plentiful around here – a footpath and bridleway are a few hundred yards away and there’s a bike path by the farm entrance that links to the Phoenix Trail cycle route. You can also fish on the River Thame, which runs through the farm, or simply sit back and look out for red kites providing displays overhead. A good place to do that bit of wildlife spotting is the private space just outside your hut, which has a chiminea and that lovely hot tub. Inside, the huts have been kitted out with everything you need for a cosy break for two, including a double bed, an ensuite shower room and a kitchenette with microwave, hob, fridge and kettle.

Local attractions

Your hut makes a fabulous place to stay, but there are some rather fancier buildings around too that make great places to visit. Waddesdon Manor (25 minutes’ drive), Cliveden House and Blenheim Palace (both half an hour) are all well worth a visit. If you’re feeling particularly posh after seeing all that lot, you could treat yourself to a Michelin-starred meal at Le Manoir aux Qaut' Saisons (10 minutes), surely one of the country’s finest restaurants. Not quite dressed for the occasion? There are often great bargains to be had in the designer outlets at Bicester Village (25 minutes). No problem if you’d rather stick to the fresh air – there are lots of walks in the surroundings or the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (15 minutes), or you can play rounds at the Oxfordshire Golf Hotel (five minutes) and Waterstock Golf Club (10 minutes). A stroll around the colleges of Oxford (half an hour) rewards you with excellent views too – plus the chance to have a go at punting along the river…
