Grass pitches

  • Grass pitches in Weston-on-the-Green, a 10-minute drive from Bicester
  • Blenheim Palace 15 minutes’ drive; Oxford 25 minutes
  • Resident farm animals; on-site café; pub five minutes’ walk away
You don’t have to be miles away from everything to sample a little slice of rural splendour. Godwin’s Caravan and Camping has level grass pitches, far-reaching country views, and resident cattle, sheep and horses (if you’re lucky, you might also catch a glimpse of the hedgehogs that scuttle about the place). What’s more, it is dead easy to access via the M40 and the A34 – it sits on the outskirts of Weston-on-the-Green (a 10-minute walk), not-quite-halfway between Bicester (10 minutes’ drive) and Oxford (25 minutes). Let the kids have a bit of a runaround on the field while you locate the toilet/shower block (with facilities for disabled guests, too) and the café, which serves hot food (including all-day breakfasts), cakes and coffees, plus home-made ice cream in a wide range of flavours. Then it’s off to explore the local area – perhaps via the village pub, which is a five-minute walk away down the B430. If you have your four-legged companion with you, head to Kirtlington Quarry (10 minutes), with woodland and waterside walks; to Merton Woodlands (15 minutes) or to the dog park in Lower Arncott (15 minutes), where it can run off the lead. Birdwatchers, meanwhile, make a beeline for RSPB Otmoor (20 minutes), an area of wetlands that is home to marsh harriers and lapwings, as well as hares and lizards. Come dinner time, the pub might exert its lure again, or you might want to start a barbecue. Provisions can be sourced from the village shop or from a supermarket on the A34 (10 minutes).

Powered grass campsite

Liked: Great location amongst picture perfect village. Short walk to pub, village shop (limited hours), hotel. Cafe onsite for breakfast and lunch. Modern and clean amenities block with 2 showers and 2 toilets for each sex. Near to Bicester Village and Blenheim Palace and lots of places to visit around the Oxford area.

Disliked: Disabled toilet and disabled shower seperate from each other. Some traffic noise although fairly constant (reason I wouldn't go back).

Powered grass campsite

Liked: We liked how at the beginning of the week it was a quiet site. We liked the views of the fields and animals. It’s only a small site.

Disliked: We got a text upon arrival to tell us which pitch. We didn’t see anyone and the shower block toilet facilities were not cleaned from when we arrived after a week. The campsite itself has a few work units around almost which wasn’t mentioned the cafe is near one of these units. A few times cars came flying around the corner from the units when we were driving out.

From the manager: Thanks for your review and comments. I do attend site daily and the facilities are cleaned daily when I visit but yes this does get done during quiet periods when there are few guests about so that might be why you hadn't seen me! I am never far away though so guests are encouraged to contact me if they need anything. We just try to let guests enjoy their stay without disturbing them. Yes there are other buildings nearby however our pitches do have views of lovely open fields on 3 sides and don't forget that the buildings also include the O-mazing yoga studio and the on site cafe which is very popular. Hope you will give us another try soon.

Lovely campsite peaceful, great pub less than 10min walk. Spotless.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: Lovely campsite peaceful, great pub with generous food portions and reasonable priced drinks less than 10min walk.

We had a powered pitch that had water supply so no effort to setup. Well setout and clearly marked up.

Toilet/Shower block was super clean just like the photos, i would happily return.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike.

An improvement would be to have a kids play area onsite to make it young child friendly.

Local attractions

Whether you’re into British history, spectacular architecture or elegant gardens, Blenheim Palace (15 minutes’ drive) has it all. This early 18th-century mansion was the birthplace of Winston Churchill, and its splendid interior includes the gilded Palace State Rooms, hung with family portraits. The gardens, laid out by Capability Brown, feature several themed areas, plus a maze. Besides handsome college buildings, Oxford (25 minutes) is home to the Ashmolean Museum, with displays such as an Egyptian sarcophagus, a samurai armour and world-class art – from Fra Angelico to Goya. Take a tour of the Bodleian Library, or visit Oxford Castle & Prison, from whose tower you can admire the city’s famed spires. Head to Chilterns National Landscape (half an hour) for long walks on chalky hills dotted with farming fields, ancient woodland and pretty villages. Red kites soar above National Trust - Watlington Hill, while colourful butterflies can be spotted at Bradenham Estate.
