If the sight of all those finely toned bods rowing up and down the river gets a bit much, take to the towpath and head away from Henley for a quieter ramble, perhaps to one of the country pubs in Hurley or Medmenham – or all the way to the famed Hand & Flowers pub in Marlow; it'll take a couple of hours but a Michelin-starred meal is your virtuous reward at the end. Or perhaps all the action has inspired you to start getting a bit more active? There are three golf courses within a 15-minute drive if you’d like to ease yourself in gently, and Bracknell Ski Centre is 35 minutes away if you’re more of a daredevil downhill type. Several of Henley’s neighbours make for handsome wanders too – Windsor (35 minutes) must be top pick for anyone who wants to put the royal into their Royal Regatta experience, and the fancy colleges of Oxford are about 45 minutes away. The National Trust’s Greys Court is 10 minutes away if you’d like to get a classic country pile on the schedule.
