  • Adults-only rural Oxfordshire site five minutes' drive from Deddington
  • Blenheim Palace 15 minutes' drive; half an hour to Oxford
  • Farm walks and firepits available; dogs and horses welcome
No children, but plenty of wildlife – and a field of horses as your nearest neighbours… It’s all a very relaxed and peaceful experience at adults-only Francis Fields, in rural Oxfordshire about five minutes’ drive from the market town of Deddington. This is a lovely place to relax and unwind, perhaps taking a stroll around the farm to meet the horses and ponies (ask on site if you’d like a proper introduction), finding a spot for a picnic or just chilling out in a deckchair with a drink of your choice and soaking up the uninterrupted views of the surrounding countryside. It’s not just the human guests that appreciate this location – other visitors often include foxes, badgers, deer, owls and birds of prey, all of which you might catch sight of if you tread carefully or sit quietly enough. As an adults-only site children are not allowed to stay here, but travelling horses and dogs are welcome. The local pub, 10 minutes’ walk away, is also a dog-friendly place – and with tasty food and a good range of beers into the bargain. More shops and pubs are up in Deddington, along with a monthly farmers’ market. Back on site, you’ll be staying on a gently sloping field where pitches are mown into the wild grass. Solar lighting illuminates each pitch, the access track and the toilet and shower areas, and there are firepits to hire for a nice warm alfresco evening.

Hawthorn Field primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite (no pets)

Liked Clean toilet and shower facilities. Care and attention given to details, such as stones in areas that would be muddy, compacted ground to drive on. Nice natural privacy in the long grass and a very nice view. We visited in a very rainy period and everything was good.

Hawthorn Field primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite (no pets)

Liked The layout of the site and pitches were great and the scenery was absolutely beautiful. We stayed in the Hawthorn section and liked how the pitches were pre assigned and there was set space between each pitch, with lovely wild grass as dividers which added to the privacy. The size was very generous as we were able to fit the car, a 4 man tent and a small camping gazebo on it without feeling cramped.
There were two flush toilets that were regularly cleaned and hot outdoor showers.
The washing up station was in the cutest little shack and well lit until late.
The site was super clean and walking past the horses overlooking the site was a lovely bonus.
We took a walk to the White Horse pub in Great Tew which took around 25 minutes along a very quiet country road. A bit further along from the pub was a lovely little church and thatched roof house.

Disliked More of a personal preference as i had never used this type before but the outdoor showers were in a closed timber frame so were quite dark when inside.

Liked Facilities were great.
Bathrooms were spotless.
Pitch was a really good side and the fencing meant we were not stressed about the dog and could let her off.

Liked Best campsite we've ever stayed at. Very peaceful and quiet. No traffic noise. Well spaced out pitches in a large meadow with amazing views overlooking rolling hills. Great facilities (flushing loos with small sinks, hot showers, double sink washing up area). Everything was exceptionally clean and well looked after. Even free WiFi provided. Local pub in walkable distance (20 minutes).

Oak Field primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked We loved the pitch site, it was like a little bubble mown into long grass on the field with plenty of space between other campers. It was so peaceful and quiet and dog friendly too. The toilets, showers and wash up section were very nice. Clean and aesthetic too. It was easy to find and communication with the hosts was good. They had Wifi, but we didn't need it as the reception was fine where we were. We were lucky with the weather and saw some magical sunsets over the field. We had a fantastic weekend camped here and would definitely recommend.

Local attractions

Staying at Francis Fields, you’ll be just on the edge of the Cotswolds National Landscape, putting you within easy reach of lots of gorgeous walking and cycling routes (and a good number of country pubs to stop at…) Some favourite options nearby include walks around the Rollright Stones, or a grander tour of Broughton Castle (both 20 minutes’ drive). Even grander are the lavish stately home and landscaped gardens (designed by Capability Brown, no less) at Blenheim Palace (15 minutes). If your current togs aren’t up to scratch for such things, hit the outlet stores at Bicester Village (20 minutes). The Cotswolds Distillery (25 minutes) is another good place to shop, with a café and distillery tours on offer too. Other days out nearby might take you into Oxford (half an hour) to tour the colleges and museums or try your hand at the art of punting, or to the high-speed action at the Silverstone circuit (35 minutes).
