Adventure play park
Adventure play park

  • Water- and land-based event centre in 270 acres of parkland
  • Easy access to Nottingham city centre, rail network and airport
  • Country walks, nature trails and lots to do for kids
What do you reckon is the main flavour of activities at this Nottinghamshire site? Yup, top of the menu at the Holme Pierrepont Country Park, near Nottingham are all sorts of watersports: you'll be able to tackle a whitewater course for canoeing, kayaking, rafting and tubing; paddleboarding, open-top canoeing and the inflatable assault course Wipe Out. But! This is a land-based activity centre too, so if you don't fancy plunging into the foamy depths or would quite like to stay dry for a day, other options can be tackled at the outdoor adventure zone where there's an aerial adventure course, miniature golf, a mini four-wheel drive course for kids, a kids' activity club and archery combat. A large play park, country walks and nature zones are also on site (please note some activities are subject to availability and must be booked at reception; early booking is advisable). Feeling a bit faint just from reading all this and think you'd rather spectate? The centre has kindly included a country park café and a regatta lake where it hosts its own events like rowing and canoe regattas, dragonboat racing and triathlons. Lots is on offer too to keep the kids amused, including a woodland adventure playground and a nature trail a short stroll away. Although all this energetic excellence is only 10 minutes' drive from Nottingham city centre, it's well into the countryside and away from anything townie, as it's deep in the 270 acres of parkland of Holme Pierrepont Country Park. The campsite part of the park covers 18 acres and has a facilities block with showers and toilets, and a site shop selling selected groceries and camping supplies.

Liked: The site is very well thought out , plenty of bins , toilet and shower facilities and pot washing areas

Disliked: Sadly the showers and toilets are not maintained and cleaned often enough. On many occasions ( at varying times of the day and night) they were extremely dirty and there was no soap or toilet roll.
The staff in the small coffee shop near the Sky trail were not at all helpful
When I asked where I should go to pay for this activity. There was litter and rubbish on the decking outside - it was very off putting . Such as shame as this could be a really thriving little place!

Powered grass campsite

Liked: Size of pitches was really good and plenty of space for children to play, access to national water sports centre and activities. Pre booking information.

Disliked: Shower and toilet facilities were disgusting, no staff at reception, no clear instructions on site to things like bins. The facilities is what you pay for and they were not up to the standard you would expect. Cleaning took place at the busiest time in the morning when everyone needed to use the facilities therefore nothing got cleaned as they were in use. Only one cleaner on site.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Self check in - information given in advance about how to access campsite and pitch number etc
Very close to national watersports centre

Disliked: Shower/toilet doors were difficult to lock
Shower was difficult to operate and a small trickle of water meant it was difficult to wash (while having one hand on the button to keep water flowing...)
Difficult to get anyone on the phone to answer questions
