If you’re keen to stay in the open air but don’t want to miss out on a nightly pint in a cosy local, Swan Lake Caravan Park might just be the place for you. The grass pitches at this adults-only site sit behind the White Swan pub, a traditional boozer in the Nottinghamshire village of Dunham on Trent. There are other advantages to staying here besides the proximity to the pub: the site is just off the A57 (and therefore easy to reach), plus there are bus stops nearby, and it will welcome your canine buddy. On top of that, it has its own fishing lake. Ready to explore the Nottinghamshire countryside? A 10-minute walk takes you to the Dunham Toll Bridge and the path that runs along the River Trent. Then you can walk (or cycle) south towards Fledborough Viaduct and on to Girton Lakes (a five-mile hike); or head north, towards Torksey Castle (about four miles). If you’re feeling adventurous, the Skellingthorpe Walk is a 10-mile path leading all the way into Lincoln (allow at least four hours on foot… or 20 minutes by car). The site has modern toilet and shower facilities, freshwater points and chemical waste disposal, plus an area where you can wash up after your barbecue.

Liked Large level pitches. Very friendly welcome. The location with a pub by the entrance, excellent indian restaurant in the village and nice dog walking along the Trent.

Liked Excellent site a real gem. Adult only really quite. Very friendly and welcoming warden.
Showers spotlessly clean and really warm.
Toilets spotless.
Would highly recommend.

Liked Firstly this is adult only so it’s perfect for us, it’s literally right behind a pub so that’s another thumbs up. Small and very peaceful site. A fishing lake within 50/100 yards from any pitch. Ralph and wife were very friendly and chatty. I personally don’t use the on-site facilities but my husband said they were very clean.

Liked Small quiet site, had the place to ourselves, toilet facilities were relatively new and clean, however if site was full the toilets may not be enough. Fishing was plentiful. The white Swan pub was nice for a beer or two.

Disliked In MH restricted, no facilties at all in village, every thing was a bus ride away other than Indian restraunt. Some areas around site looked unkept and in need of maintenance along with fishing stands

Liked Lovely site, nice and quiet. Lovely food at the pub, with friendly staff and locals. The Indian restaurant a five min walk was also very nice. Hubby enjoyed the fishing. Lovely walk at the side of river trent. Toilet and showers always nice and clean. We will definitely be returning

Liked The peacefulness on the site. It being adult only. Small and friendly

Disliked We paid for an extra large pitch then someone park their caravan the opposite way so made the awning and their windbreak almost touching. Walkway only though. I think when arriving people need to be told which is their pitch and which way. This was my only problem. The women then moaned about our dogs. We was pitched up before them so for me go and park somewhere else. Ralf was great also.

Liked Warden Ralph was great, the facilities are good, the location is nice, and the pub is nearby.
Site is new and looks like a work in progress still but will be lovely when finished.
Like the washing up hut, access to oven and washing machine too.

Disliked Needs more showers ideally when the site is full.

The attractions at Sundown Adventureland (five minutes’ drive) were built with younger visitors (under the age of 10) in mind – kids can ride a tractor or meet the characters from The Wizard of Oz on the Yellow Brick Road snaking through the forest. They'll also believe pigs can fly on the Giddy Piggies ride. Explore 3,000+ acres of parkland at National Trust - Clumber Park (25 minutes), a former ducal estate that now welcomes visitors – whether on foot or bike. Check out the Gothic chapel, pause for a picnic by the lake or in the Pleasure Grounds, or sniff out the Rose Garden, with its dozens of varieties. When in Nottinghamshire, of course you have to pay a visit to Sherwood Forest (half an hour), said to have been home to Robin Hood and his merry men. There are historical reenactments celebrating this folklore hero, or you can simply explore wooded trails, looking out for birds like woodpeckers and pipits.
