  • Ten-acre campsite five minutes’ drive from Haxey in rural Lincolnshire
  • Epworth Old Rectory five minutes’ drive; 20 to Yorkshire Wildlife Park
  • Clubhouse with licensed bar open summer weekends; dogs welcome on lead
Looking for a long Lincolnshire stay or simply overnighting? No matter which, you’re sure of a warm welcome at Willow Fields Camping, five minutes’ drive from Haxey's shops and pubs. Set in 10 acres of flat Lincolnshire countryside, the site has spectacular views of the surrounding farmland and nature reserves. Once on site, it’s time to kick back and relax, let the kids have a run around the open field – dogs are also welcome, but please keep them on a lead at all times and clean up after them. An arcade and soft play centre with bouncy castles (all at an additional fee) is open on busy weekends, adding more things to do. If you’re self-catering, firepits and barbecues are permitted, but they must be at least a foot off the ground. Firewood can be bought on site, and there’s a bin near the exit for any ash. Not so keen on alfresco cooking? Head to the clubhouse (open Friday and Saturday during peak times), where there is a generous supply of pizzas, burgers and deep-fried goodies. Need a restorative drink after a day’s Lincolnshire adventuring? Call in at the bar for refreshing alcoholic and soft drinks. You’ve also got the option of three pubs within 20 minutes’ stroll. Keeping everyone – and everything – neat and tidy is a doddle, thanks to modern shower facilities, a launderette and washing-up sinks. Getting to Willow Fields is a cinch too, as it’s 10 minutes’ drive from the M180 motorway. Just be aware that the lane up to the site is roughly half-a-mile long and has a 10mph speed limit.

FHU grass campsite

Liked Nice large area, small bar was great, fun fair was a great edition

Disliked 3 showers for the amount of people this weekend was crazy! When I arrived there was a line of 8 people. Must have been 200+ meaning it would take 16 hours for each person to have a 5 minute shower (dressing time)

Some of the Staff could have been a bit friendlier (all polite) just no typical welcoming hospitality ( other then the lady on outside bar who was lovely on the Sunday night) , had to go searching for reception.

Liked Nice site - not a fan of the fair but accept it would be nice for children - although expensive.
Lovely pizzas on site and nice to have a bar to purchase drinks from.

Disliked Dog mess not picked up on grass - saw a litter picker but he didn’t pick up either.
Only two toilets per sex and one disabled - not enough for the size of the site. Same with showers - only 3.

Powered grass campsite

Liked Location and clubhouse.

Disliked Facilities (showers need a big update) Elsan point a decent walk away. Fun house only open Thursday-Sunday which is not advertised, ruined our stay because kids were bored so came home a day early. Bar was only open Friday Saturday Sunday, maybe that opens Thursday too but didn't ask as we wasn't there Thursday. ( Literally only the small and outdated arcade open on Monday). The fair was good (open fri, sat, sun) massively over priced but understand that doesn't belong to the site, wristbands would be a big hit to make it more affordable.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Loved the site, great location, great funfair. Food options are good. Toilets/showers nice and clean. The only thing that would make our stay exceptional would be a coffee machine or hot water supply for nights or early mornings for those that couldn't get electrical pitch.

Disliked It didn't bother us in the slightest but it isn't the quietest of sites, some families up later but we're respectful and lowered music etc but for some people that might annoy them. Like I say it didn't bother us, we had an amazing stay

Local attractions

Keen to see some Lincolnshire flora and fauna? First stop might be the circular walk around Rush Furlong nature reserve – right outside the site gates – a wildflower meadow scattered with rare green-winged orchids, oxeye daisies and primroses. Potteric Carr Nature Reserve (25 minutes’ drive) is another wildlife haven teeming with wading birds in the lagoons and reed beds, plus meadows full of butterflies in summer. Yorkshire Wildlife Park (20 minutes) has a daily schedule of keeper talks and animal encounters to keep the whole family entertained, as well as a dinosaur trail and soft-play centres for younger kids – who will also probably adore meeting goats, ponies and wallabies at Shepherds Place Farm (five minutes). Rainy day? The historic market town of Epworth has a leisure centre with pool and gym to keep everyone distracted from the weather, as well as indie boutiques to browse. Red-brick Epworth Old Rectory (both five minutes) was the childhood home of John and Charles Wesley, founders of Methodism, and is open in summer for tours of its period rooms.
