Quiet and peaceful site
Pitching field
Seating area

  • Peaceful pitches in a two-acre field behind a traditional village inn
  • Half an hour's drive to Rutland Water and Burghley House
  • Dog-friendly pub with real ales, good food and beer garden
If you’ve ever found yourselves quibbling about whose turn it is to drive for an evening out, here’s a fine idea for you: make it no one’s turn by pitching up right behind The Wishing Well Inn, a country pub in the Lincolnshire village of Dyke five minutes’ drive north of Bourne. No such debate needs to happen while you’re staying here, as your journey from pub to pitch involves just a couple of minutes’ stroll to the two-acre grass area just behind the beer garden. And a lovely pub it is too: a traditional country inn dating back more than 300 years, with beams and woodburning stove inside and a sizeable garden area with covered and open seating areas. Dogs and kids are most welcome in the pub, which serves up a seasonal menu of British pub classic meals (made with local produce where possible) alongside local beers and a good range of other drinks. Once you’re ready for a bit of sleep, wander back to your pitch, where drinking water and chemical disposal are available (and you can come back to the pub toilets for your ablutions). And how to work up an appetite for the food and drinks in the pub? Well, The Wishing Well makes a great base for days of rural walks, horse riding or watersports, or you could take day trips to the likes of Burghley House, Peterborough Cathedral, Grimsthorpe Castle and the historic streets of Stamford.

What customers say

This quiet, peaceful site shines with its great pub, delicious food, and friendly staff. Guests loved the spacious, level pitches with countryside views. However, basic facilities with no showers and limited toilet access led some to find it pricey for tents. Occasional long grass and hook-up issues were noted.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Very quiet site only us and one other pitch being used, probably more suitable for caravans as no toilet over night, we were in a tent but only staying for one night so wasn't to worried about peeing in a bush 😂 you would need a porta loo if you had young children. Beautiful country side views. Nice walk to local town. The field was clean and mowed no thorns in the grass which is nice if you need to get up in the night to pee. 😂 Nice old pub that serves food.

Disliked This site is only suitable for short stays as not a lot to do in the area. no toilet over night and no shower.

Liked Peaceful location behind excellent Public house. The pitch was more than adequate with hook up, black waste and water at pub. The pub itself was a brilliant free house serving a great selection of local ales. The service was second to none and the food was amazing.

Disliked Nothing.

Local attractions

If you’ve decided on outdoor activities as a theme, there are plenty of places to get out for walks and cycling days nearby – and of course, Lincolnshire’s famously rather flat so any such activities should be relatively easy on the knees. For alternative pursuits, it’s 15 minutes’ drive to a horse riding centre, 20 minutes to a golf course and half an hour to Rutland Water for fishing and watersports. Prefer your days out to have a bit of history behind them? Get down to the gorgeous Burghley House (half an hour’s drive) for a wander around the grand building, the sculpture garden and the intriguing Garden of Surprises. Grimsthorpe Castle (15 minutes) is another place that should be on your list for pretty views inside and out. For a bit of urban time, pop down to Peterborough (35 minutes) to visit the cathedral and museum before boarding the Nene Valley Railway, or take a wander around Stamford (25 minutes), which also has a pool if you fancy a dip while on your travels.
