  • Peaceful touring site near Bourne, Lincolnshire
  • Beautiful location near a river and woodland; dogs are welcome
  • Close to historic town of Stamford and the famed Burghley House
Grab the dog (if you've got one – no need to acquire one specially) and head to Cresslands Touring Park in South Lincolnshire for woodland walks and lazy days near the River Glen. A good base for exploring the surroundings and enjoying a bit of outdoor time, the park is five minutes from a peaceful woodland, for long walks and spotting wildlife (including the kingfishers which live along this stretch of the glen). Guests can also head to the nearby river for walks, or take bikes out onto quiet countryside lanes. Not got a mutt? The site's also welcoming to cats, rabbits… even kids. Whoever's in your party, head to the opposite riverbank for a popular walking spot leading to the nature reserve along the Macmillan Way, a long-distance footpath linking Boston in Lincolnshire to Abbotsbury in Dorset. After all that fresh air you won’t have to venture far for a drink and a bite to eat – Waterside Garden Centre is 500 metres away with a restaurant, and there are a few pubs around a mile away if you fancy some pub grub. Cresslands is four miles south of Bourne, which has a greater selection of eateries, and the historic town of Stamford, with its attractions such as the famed Burghley House and Park and open-air theatre, is about a 25-minute drive. Bathroom facilities on site include two showers, two toilets and two wash basins with instant hot water and nifty extras including shaver ports and hand dryers. Two washing-up sinks and a washing machine are also available.

FHU gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked We've just returned from 3 nights here.
We loved it!

The friendly welcome on arrival, the nice spacious hardstanding pitch with electric, water & waste, nicely separated by hedges.

The shower block was nice & clean. It felt more personal& homely than your standard site facilities.

We contemplated staying 1 more night.

We enjoyed walking around the site with Luna the Yorkshire terrier & enjoyed the walk directly offsite over the bridge.

Tv & phone signal was fine.

Would we return? Most definately! Would we recommend? Absolutely!

The site is a credit to its owner.

Liked Pitch size and privacy due to laurel hedges. Pitch facilities excellent. Well laid out site with all amenities. Nice large showers with ample hot water. Quality loo paper provided and good information on arrival.

Disliked Some road noise. WiFi would be useful even for a small fee.

FHU gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Cresslands is a hidden gem. The site has been tentively designed and intertwines with nature. The stream, that ran along the side, was crystal clear & teeming with little fish, whilst we weren't fortunate enough to spot a kingfisher( needed more time),we did see a little egret and red kites. Hats off to David, who has created a tranquil site, with an abundant eco system. One of the best sites we've stayed on, over the years!
The shower & toilet facilities were well equipped, spacious & extremely clean.
Others have commented on the adjacent traffic noise, but to be honest, it didn't really bother us.
We visited Stamford with it's amazing architectural churches & buildings, vibrant shops, cafes & bustling market. Ate at The Black Horse, a short drive away & The Horsehoes, virtually on Cresslands doorstep. Both of which served great food with a friendly service.
We'll definitely return to this site, but this time, explore the nearby nature reserve and local walks, which are easily accessible from this glorious site.

Visit Burghley House and Park, a 16th-century country house near Stamford (25 minutes by car), built for Elizabeth I's lucky Lord High Treasurer Lord Burghley. Sights to see include the Great Hall with hammer beam roof, collections of 17th-century Italian paintings, the gorgeous Heaven Room painted by Verrio, and the gardens packed with sculptures, flowers and plants. While in Stamford, pay visits to All Saints Church and the Stamford Arts Centre, home to art galleries and the tourist info centre. You might also stroll around the Stamford meadows for birdwatching or a picnic on the banks of the Welland. Another option in town is All Saints Brewery, for guided tours of the microbrewery and tastings of its specialised fruit beers.
