Wellwood farm in summer
A full rainbow

  • Spacious, no-frills adults-only site on a Lincolnshire working farm
  • Half an hour's drive from Lincoln or Boston; an hour from the coast
  • Views over surrounding fens; dogs and barbecues permitted
Fens, farmland and fruit trees lie in wait at Wellwood Farm, a quiet site with pretty panoramas and open-air times in spades – the flat agricultural landscape around this Lincolnshire working farm makes great terrain for outdoor activities like birdwatching or cycle tours around quiet country lanes… It's a frill-free setup at this peaceful adults-only site – guests have access to a toilet and a mains water supply. Couples and groups looking for a break in green and grassy Lincolnshire are welcome to settle down on these well-maintained and spacious grounds, and well-behaved dogs are also allowed to tag along too. Numbers are always kept fairly low, so there's invariably plenty of space on the large pitching field. There are also games on site, including clock golf, boules and outdoor dominoes. As far as food is concerned, feel free to cook your own over a barbecue (drive 10 minutes to the local farm shop if you're looking to buy some fresh meat and veg). You can also head to nearby villages if you fancy taking a break from prepping meals – this site's owners particularly recommend the pub grub on offer in Billinghay and Digby and the Indian restaurant in nearby North Kyme (all of which, handily, are about a five-minute drive away). Further afield – but not too much further, mind you – are top attractions like historic Lincoln (30 minutes), the wide open spaces of Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (from 35 minutes) and classic seaside towns like Skegness (about an hour).

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Quiet, flat, dark, adults only, exceptionally clean and tidy with well spaced out pitches. Excellent Indian in North Kyme which you can pre order online and delivers to site at chosen time. Will definitely stay here again!

Disliked Whilst the toilet and shower was exceptionally clean would have preferred toilet and shower separate so you didn't feel like you were keeping someone waiting for the loo. With a shelf above the sink area. These are personal preference not dislikes.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked This is a small but perfectly formed adults only campsite in a peaceful rural setting.
There are eight level pitches which are well spaced apart in a grassy fenced paddock.
Wooden picnic benches are provided on four of the pitches.
You can park next to your pitch.
There is a single toilet and shower which is well maintained and clean.
There is a small charge for using the shower.
The views across the countryside are beautiful and panoramic.
The sunset and sunrise are spectacular and unobstructed.
There is a small country road next to the campsite but it is very quiet.
There is an abundance of wildlife that will drop by for a visit, especially in the evening or early morning.
On a cloudless and warm night you can relax outside your tent with a glass of wine and watch the stars appear.
This is the perfect place to relax and unwind.
The village of Billinghay is a couple of minutes drive. There is a good fish and chip shop if you don't want to cook or several good pubs in the local vicinity.
The owners are friendly, welcoming and unobtrusive.
We loved it.

Disliked Nothing to dislike.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked great little quiet, level site - toilets / shower clean and well stocked - its a £1 coin for the shower, but we didn't use it so dont know how long it lasts. Views for miles and we even saw a small family of what we believe to be Oystercatchers, and other assorted birds of prey too. Will definitely return

Liked Had a lovely week stay at Wellwood Farm. The site was basic which was why we picked it but was a great base to explore the area and made up for this in vistas, wildlife and more. Thank you, we had an an amazing time.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Our second visit. Lovely and quiet with clean toilet and shower. Paddock is nice and flat and only a couple of other campers, which is ideal if you don't want cramping in. The sunsets are amazing!

Disliked Only thing was the shower was £1 and I don't carry cash. This meant I couldn't go for a run as intended.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review. So sorry about the shower. You ought to have come to see us and we could have sorted it out for you, nothing is too much trouble. Thank you again for visiting us.

Local attractions

There's many a historic spot to be inspected in this part of eastern England, whether that involves hunting out heritage at 15th-century Tattershall Castle (15 minutes' drive), steering your squadron towards Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre (30 minutes) or gallivanting through the Victorian gardens of the Gunby Estate (45 minutes). Get your fix of shops and cobbled city streets in Lincoln (30 minutes), where highlights include the Cathedral Quarter, Usher Gallery and remains of the Roman South Wall. Grownup groups may also appreciate a trip to Boston (30 minutes), where there's impressive architecture to admire like St Botolph’s Church and Maud Foster Mills, a 25-metre-tall windmill where you can still watch fresh flour being ground twice weekly. Looking for your seaside fix? Beat a path to Skegness (an hour) where there's the Natureland Seal Sanctuary to visit and a pier to pootle on. Chapel St Leonards (an hour and 10 minutes) is another seaside spot with a good mix of indoor and alfresco attractions.
