  • Small Lincolnshire site next to the village hall in North Scarle
  • Newark Air Museum 15 minutes' drive; half an hour to Lincoln
  • Playing field next door; a short walk to village pub and play area
Spacious pitches in a quiet spot well away from busy roads… but with a pub, play area and playing field all within a short walk. Sounds good, right? That’s what you can expect from a stay at North Scarle Campsite, next to the village hall in the Lincolnshire village of the same name. There are only a handful of pitches at this site, but each of them is a generous 7 m x 7m, and has both electric and water hookups. Fresh water and a chemical disposal point are on site, and toilet and shower facilities are available in the adjacent village hall. The playing field next to the site is great for kicking a ball around or taking the dog for a walk; two dogs are permitted per pitch, and they must be kept on leads while on site. Being just on the edge of the village also means you can walk to the pub in about five minutes for a meal or a relaxing pint, or take the kids to the nearby play area. The village hosts a car boot sale at the village hall every other Sunday from April to September – maybe drop in to see what treasures you can find? The site is well placed for exploring Lincolnshire, as it’s halfway between Lincoln and Newark-on-Trent, making it easy to visit either of those along with attractions including Doddington Hall & Gardens or International Bomber Command Centre.

Local attractions

This area has played quite a part in military and aviation history, and you’ll be able to learn a bit more about that at Newark Air Museum (15 minutes’ drive) and International Bomber Command Centre (half an hour). If you’re visiting the second of those, take a detour to visit Lincoln (half an hour) to see the cathedral, castle and guildhall. The city’s Museum of Lincolnshire Life will give you more of an insight into local history, as will the Lincolnshire Road Transport Museum (10 minutes) and Mrs Smith's Cottage (25 minutes). On a grander scale is Doddington Hall & Gardens (10 minutes), a wonderful Elizabethan estate with a café and farm shop as well as walks, bike trails and a padel court. For more outdoor time, make trips to RSPB Langford Lowfields (10 minutes) and Hill Holt Wood (15 minutes) or meet the woolly residents of J and J Alpacas (25 minutes).
