  • Quiet site at the rear of a Leicestershire country pub
  • Calke Abbey Estate and Donington Park Circuit both 15 minutes’ drive
  • Family-friendly restaurant with a bar and beer garden
Looking for a quiet Leicestershire bolthole in the National Forest? Your search is over. Kingsmoor Retreat is a well-kept campsite at the rear of a country pub and restaurant 10 minutes’ drive from Coalville, with neatly maintained grass pitches for tents and tourers. If you feel the urge to do some alfresco cooking, barbecues are allowed on site and there are picnic tables for alfresco meals. However, the neighbouring pub may be too much temptation, drawing you in with its local ales and menu of family favourites. There’s a beer garden for warmer days, and a cosy snug heated by woodburner for chillier times. The leisure centre in Coalville has a gym, swimming pool and café (a great option for keeping kids happy if the weather goes rogue on you), and close by is a very posh spa (10 minutes) for when you’re in need of some TLC. There are also plenty of walks to access from your pitch in the National Forest, which should keep you – any accompanying dogs – well exercised.

The pub was very good. A good selection of drinks and food on Saturday night.

Disliked: Shower could have been a bit warmer, but maybe that was user error.

Liked: The pub was good to have, bouncy castle for the kids and also nice pitch with field behind

Disliked: Minimal shower and toilet facilities, showers were cold toilets dirty and not stocked with toilet roll.
Also no rubbish to be left on site- no bins even for dog poo bags!

From the manager: Thankyou for the feedback as we do appreciate your opinion. The shower and toilet facilities will be looked into and cleaned twice daily. We have been waiting for our bins to be delivered for weeks now and will arrive next week finally. We can only apologise for the inconvenience but it will be rectified. Thanks again

Liked: Nice pup. Nice views good location. Friendly bar staff

Disliked: Kids playing football near the vans and the toilets could do with cleaning twice daily and could really do with bins on site

From the manager: Hi and thank you for your feedback. Toilets will now be checked and cleaned twice daily and the bins are due to arrive next week. It's taken a month to get then delivered! We also have a brilliant chef starting at the pub on May 17th so lots of very positive changes taking place. Thanks again for your comments and hope to see you back again soon.

Nice level pitches, friendly staff, ideal for for a night or two.

Powered grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked: Lovely quiet site, next door to a friendly pub (which we took advantage of) and easy access to local amenities. It was perfect for our needs and the ability to arrive and depart at 12.00 allowed us to do more, particularly on the morning of departure.

Disliked: Although the toilet facilities were good, unfortunately the cleaning and maintenance were less so.

Liked: Lovely rural site behind a Country pub. Good sized pitches with electricity. There are 4 cabin toilets - 2 with showers. These were fine on arrival however over the Easter weekend the toilet paper ran out and then all toilets got blocked . Fortunately we have a toilet and there is an elsan disposal but this might be an issue if camping. You also couldn't leave any rubbish on site - bins would be a bonus.
We had an entertaining evening in the pub and enjoyed the huge plate of sharing nachos and loaded fries. Friendly staff who were introducing a basic menu. We would happily return to this site.

Disliked: Would benefit from toilets being cleaned at least once a day, also needs a sink to wash dishes in ideally.

Liked: Peaceful site.

Disliked: No rubbish bins or washing up area.
Cold shower.
Toilets could do with checking regular.
For the price of a tent pitch the facilities are a bit disappointing.

From the manager: Hi and thanks for your feedback. Bins are being sourced now and washing area will be made available shortly also.

Liked: The pitches were very spacious

Disliked: The toilet were never checked on, we had to take our own toilet roll and the second night the toilets became blocked but was never dealt with, we left the day after so not sure how long it was left.

The onside restaurant via the pub was not great.

No washing up area or bins which is needed for tent camping.

From the manager: Thankyou for your feedback. As stated below we now have a cleaner to do regular check on facilities, washing area going in and bins are being sourced. The food/restaurant is offering classic pub grub and home cooked specials. Plus we now have Friday fish and chip van from 5:30-8:30. All feedback is very appreciated as it will help us to elevate your experience so we take it all very seriously. Thanks again
