  • Quiet site at the rear of a Leicestershire country pub
  • Calke Abbey Estate and Donington Park Circuit both 15 minutes’ drive
  • Family-friendly restaurant with a bar and beer garden
Looking for a quiet Leicestershire bolthole in the National Forest? Your search is over. Kingsmoor Retreat is a well-kept campsite at the rear of a country pub and restaurant 10 minutes’ drive from Coalville, with neatly maintained grass pitches for tents and tourers. If you feel the urge to do some alfresco cooking, barbecues are allowed on site and there are picnic tables for alfresco meals. However, the neighbouring pub may be too much temptation, drawing you in with its local ales and menu of family favourites. There’s a beer garden for warmer days, and a cosy snug heated by woodburner for chillier times. The leisure centre in Coalville has a gym, swimming pool and café (a great option for keeping kids happy if the weather goes rogue on you), and close by is a very posh spa (10 minutes) for when you’re in need of some TLC. There are also plenty of walks to access from your pitch in the National Forest, which should keep you – any accompanying dogs – well exercised.

What customers say

This clean, friendly site offers spacious pitches and a peaceful atmosphere near local amenities, with a well-loved on-site pub. Downsides include inconsistent hot water, limited toilet paper, and infrequent cleaning. Some found it pricey for minimal facilities. Many would return.

Powered grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked The warm welcome on arrival. The team were so helpful as it was my first time camping in camper van. They helped get me set up with EHU, informed me of everything I’ll need and where it was. The food was of great quality from the adjourning pub, service exceptional. Everyone made me feel very welcome. Facilities were spotless & nothing was too much trouble. I felt very welcome and at home.

Liked Rustige kampeerplaats

Mag dat iets later a.u.b. ?

Powered grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Quiet location but close to local amenities. Pitches were a good size.

Disliked I understand that it is a new site and obviously there are things that will arise.
- no hot water for washing up
- no bins in bathrooms
- toilet roll needs to replaced
- access to water is right next to someone’s caravan - it feels a little intrusive

Powered grass and gravel tent campsite

Liked Everything - we were welcomed with open arms. I’ve never stayed at a site with such wonderful hosts.
The pitches were spacious and flat. The toilets/showers were clean and there was a brilliant pub with great Mexican food on site.
An excellent stay!

Liked Friendly site with good clean facilities.

Disliked I don't believe there was hot water to the sink for washing pots. Other than that couldn't fault the site or pub.

Powered grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Although we booked in for 2 nights we only stayed one as we were called away but the grass pitch (gravel road) was flat and fine with friendly staff - would book again.

Disliked Maybe a bit expensive but we booked the day before arrival - prefer brick built WC and shower etc. facilities, weren't keen on the 'Blue water' disposal point, easy to pitch - good for a pub site.
