  • Modern, well-maintained rural park 20 minutes' drive from Hereford
  • Half an hour’s drive to Ludlow; 10 minutes to Hampton Court Castle
  • Smart adult-only site with gardens and a bar; breakfast can be ordered
If you’re feeling the need for a peaceful, adults-only break on a well-maintained and spotless contemporary campsite, have a look at The Shires Park. This holiday park has far-reaching views over Herefordshire countryside, and it's only about a half-hour drive from the fab foodie town of Ludlow. Spread over fields edged by carefully tended, manicured gardens, the site has loads of facilities to make things easy for guests, from a spotless shower and loo block to a splendid bar in a converted barn, where work by local artists is exhibited (making a handy distraction on any rainy days) with lots of bench seating outside for alfresco drinks in sunny weather. Friendly staff are on hand here, and food needs are taken care of too, as breakfasts packed into picnic hampers can be provided by prior request. Barbecues are permitted – but if that’s all too much like hard work, there are several foodie pubs within 10 minutes’ drive where you can grab a bite to eat. Sticking to the self-catering? Replenish supplies at the local community shop (five minutes’ drive) and pick up artisan cider from the apple orchards nearby.

Liked Diane and Andy were very friendly and welcoming. Nice and peaceful with a calm, respectful vibe

Very clean facilities and the bar is a great touch as an area for a drink or to chill in away from the tent.

The breakfast sarnies are 10/10. I’ll be going back

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Last minute decision to get away and try out camping again...what an absolute find. This adults only campsite is absolutely incredible and has made me get a bug for camping again. Set in beautiful surroundings, with an immaculately kept toilet and shower block, a great well stocked and well priced bar and run by 2 lovely salt of the earth people who made it such a great welcoming and fun experience. If you have dogs there is also a special dog walking area too and if you like firepits and barbecues all can be hired here aswell. Thank you Di and Andy. We will definitely be returning and spreading the word to any keen campers who want to get away without kids.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked We loved our weekend camping here! The best facilities we’ve seen and the friendliest hosts! Lovely powerful showers with hot water - even hairdryers in the shower block! The breakfast was excellent too, and the selection of drinks available at the bar was great! We purchased some fire wood and it was very good value. The field was large enough to not be too close to anyone else
Would 100% stay here again!

Disliked Can’t say there was anything we disliked!

Local attractions

The lovely town of Ludlow (half an hour’s drive) is a joy to explore for its 11th-century castle and ancient cobbled streets. After admiring the half-timbered buildings and poking about in its food shops and market, relax with a cuppa in a tea shop or sneak into a historic pub for a glass of local cider. Opt for Hereford (20 minutes) to learn about the county’s cider-making tradition at Hereford Cider Museum – or, if spirits are more your thing, you can taste and buy local gins and vodkas at Chase Distillery (five minutes). To tick a couple of stately homes off your list, tour the magnificent Jacobean manor at Hampton Court Castle (10 minutes), or have a potter around 18th-century interiors stuffed with period furniture at National Trust - Berrington Hall (20 minutes). Prefer to be out and about in the countryside? There are several golf clubs within 15 minutes’ drive, or you might like to follow the waymarked trails through woodland at Haugh Wood Butterfly Trail (20 minutes), keeping your eyes open for elusive butterflies. Stockton Bury Gardens has seasonal floral displays to discover, while at Newbridge Farm Park (both 15 minutes) you can befriend donkeys, emus and alpacas.
