  • Forest of Dean pitches on the banks of the River Severn
  • A 20-minute drive to Puzzlewood; half an hour to Symonds Yat
  • Dog-friendly café on site for breakfast and lunch seven days a week
What a location this is for an open-air stay… book a break here and you can wake up to stunning views over the River Severn before strolling over to the on-site café to get your day off to a tasty start with a cooked breakfast (or just a bacon bap and a coffee if that’s more your style…) Silver Fox Café and Camping is in a prime position here, right on the riverbank within the Forest of Dean, and with the Gloucestershire village of Newnham about half a mile away for shops and other essentials. The A48 is handily just outside too, so you’ll be able to get out and about easily enough for activities and days out (and there are a couple of pubs close by too for a little drink once you’ve made it back). There’s a great atmosphere at this family-run site, and it’s small enough to be able to offer a real personal service to all guests. Dogs are welcome both on site and in the café, and there’s plenty of space to spread out a little bit on the pitches. Amenities are sorted with a shower and toilet block on site. Surely the biggest draw here though is the café, which is open seven days a week to serve up a range of breakfasts, lunches and hot and cold drinks – plus a carvery for Sunday lunch too.

What customers say

This dog-friendly spot boasts a relaxed vibe & super helpful staff. Enjoy the great cafe, fire pits & BBQs. Facilities are clean but basic, with potential shower waits. Lovely riverside setting, but expect some road noise and occasional inconsiderate campers.

Power optional grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Loved the size of the campsite, really nice quiet place to be, some things for the kids to play on, toilet and shower block basic but clean and tidy. Of course being attached to a fantastic cafe, open all day serving great food is a bonus!

Power optional grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked A relaxed site with very pleasant owners. Sign in and paying was smooth and easy.
Toilet block was always clean and did not smell bad.
Felt like we had our own space.

Disliked Some odd campers decided to have flashing fairy lights up all night.

Power optional grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The cafe and staff are fantastic, the food is excellent for the price and the staff are very friendly .

Disliked The shower and toilet block could be cleaner and it would be a good idea to have the pitches marked out . We also found that WiFi only works in the cafe and garden

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Close to river path walk and very good pub 2 minutes away
Had a nice looking cafe but it’s used by bikers so very busy didn’t go inside as rammed with motorbikes everywhere

Disliked Toilets and shower really need refurb .No WiFi even though advertised .Noisy campers who felt the rest of us should have to listen to their music on a Saturday evening

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked The location and views are perfect. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

Disliked The only criticism is that there are only 2 showers for the whole site. Its ok if ifs quiet, but when busy, its a challenge.
The pitches are not marked out, which again, was fine when there were only a handful on site, but this was a real challenge when more campers arrived because people attempted to squeeze in against the outer fence rather than camping in the middle of the field

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Location, friendly and helpful staff, lovely food at the cafe. This is a very back to basics site which I did like in many aspects. Toilet and shower faculties are adequate if a little basic but then that’s the idea of this site

Disliked Pitches are not marked out which caused a little bit of confusion when late arrivals turned up and everyone seemed to be on top of each other. Dogs, dogs and more dogs. Seems to be a national thing now that everyone has to take their dog with them. After 3 bookings with dogs that should be it on this site spent most of the evening listening to them fighting and barking
