Heading to the Badminton Horse Trials and need a place to stay that won't break the budget? Check out the pitches at France Lane Farm, less than three miles from where all the action takes place over several days in May. Set up camp here and you’ll be able to drive to Badminton Park in about five minutes – or walk it in about 45 minutes if you’d like to avoid the traffic. Turn in the other direction and a 10-minute stroll takes you to the village of Hawkesbury Upton, where you can pick up supplies at the village store or settle in for a pint and a meal in the pub. Of course, as this is the Cotswolds National Landscape, there are lots of gorgeous views around – so when you’re not busy with equestrian activities you can soak up some of the scenery on a local walking trail, head to local attractions like Highgrove Gardens or the National Arboretum, or just chill out at your pitch, enjoying the open space, green views and fresh air. Life on site is pretty simple – you’ll pitch in a grass meadow with basic facilities provided (including lighting, toilets and showers) and plenty of space to relax. Dogs are welcome to join you, and you should be able to find plenty of places to give them a good walk nearby.

Liked: Lovely spacious site in peaceful location near Badminton horse trials, fantastic loos and showers

Disliked: Site was really hard to find because there was no sign for France Lane Farm on the gate. I drove past 4 times looking for it, as did my friend and several others I spoke to. Also is there any possibility of collecting the grass clippings when the field is mowed? There was just so much grass it got absolutely everywhere and I had to sweep loads out of the toilet block
