  • Quiet and scenic site with direct access to Forest of Dean footpaths
  • Puzzlewood, Clearwell Caves and Go Ape within a 15-minute drive
  • Dog exercise field and modern bathrooms; pubs a mile away
Fancy the chance to go walking in the woods without having to drive anywhere? Deanwood Caravan and Camping has direct access onto footpaths taking you into the Forest of Dean – so it really could hardly be easier to get out and explore this gorgeous Gloucestershire scenery. Getting out for a walk might take you along woodland trails in search of local birds and wild animals – or it might involve heading up to Yorkley village, a mile away, which a dog-friendly pub as well as a well-stocked village shop (a handy place to pick up picnic supplies or something to throw on your barbecue back at base). Dogs are very welcome on site too, and will have access to their own exercise field where they can have a good run around off lead. Other facilities include washing-up areas and access to a fridge, freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. Toilets and showers are housed in a modern heated block so there’s no need to worry about chilly toes… The Forest of Dean is a fairly compact area, so pretty much all of its attractions are within a 10/15-minute drive; there’s more to see and do over in the nearby Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Beauty as well. Three miles away, the town of Lydney has various leisure facilities including indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and is a handy source of shops, supermarkets and restaurants.

Foxglove Field powered grass tent campsite

Liked: This place was very quiet so we got to pick our pitch which was great for us. The children had so much space to play. The views are absolutely beautiful with great sunsets. Clean and well kept site.

Disliked: There is a lot of cow pat in the field where children can play football and basketball. I think this area could do with a grass cut.

Powered grass and gravel travel trailer campsite (premium)

Liked: The view to the right of us was fantastic, the dog exercise area was great as was the forest walks direct from the site.
The area the site was in was ideal for places to visit especially with dogs.

Disliked: The view to the left of us made us feel like we were pitched up on a car park or storage yard rather than on a premier pitch.
The pitch was only just big enough for the caravan and awning to fit and right outside the door we were then faced with a high slipping grass area that we had to climb up to put our dogs on, this morning as the grass was wet with due I slipped down the slope onto my back, maybe younger people might not find this an issue but for us in our 60s it was not good.
I do not feel that this pitch no 8 was by any means a premium pitch as we had water but no waste to drain so we had to let it drain into the ground as we did not take barrel as it was advertised as premium.
I felt that this site was better for tents as the grass areas were kept immaculate and had the best views.
Toilets and showers were clean but quite basic.

From the manager: We are sorry to hear you had a fall and hope you are ok. We do our best to make sure everyone is happy and enjoy their time here at Deanwood, so when we asked at your pitch was everything ok, we got an answer yes. The premium pitches are terraced, so each pitch is on a different level to the next and you were actually using half of the next pitch, 7 (where your dogs are pictured) which is why you were going up a slope. Each pitch is all level, and the grassed area next to the van is for you to put your awning on or sit to enjoy the views across the valley. We did recommend on arrival to put the van in nose first to have the awning on the grass.
Our premium pitches have only ever been advertised as serviced with water and electricity.

Foxglove Field powered grass tent campsite

Liked: We visited at short notice due to lovely weather.
Site was well maintained with good grass pitches ( with electric hook-up) where we could park near to out tent. Lovely view looking down the valley. Good security with car number plate recognition.
Good shower/toilet and kitchen facilities.
Manager was very pleasant pointing us towards a host of great pubs serving good food, all within a short 5-10 minute drive.
An excellent short stay.
