  • Relaxed family-run site in the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley
  • Near Clearwell Caves, Puzzlewood, Cannop Ponds and Go Ape
  • Space to play, huge grassy pitches and close to a forest
Picture your next break among green space, woodland walks and cycling trails in the peaceful woodland setting of the famed Forest of Dean, on the edge of the market town of Coleford… You'll get a warm welcome at this relaxed, family-run and family-friendly park, in an area surrounded by ancient castles and abbeys, smashing scenery and miles of waymarked walking and biking trails. As Greenacres Campsite is right in the middle of the Forest of Dean, across the road from a woodland and within walking distance of the River Wye, it's in a good spot for fishing, bike rides and long woodland strolls, as well as easy access to attractions such as Clearwell Caves, Puzzlewood, Cannop Ponds and Go Ape at Mallards Pike Lake. Set in a field that stretches across two acres within an 11-acre smallholding, pitches are spacious, level and grassy, and the park is surrounded by huge mature trees that provide good shade and shelter from the elements. Kids should be kept very well occupied at the excellent playground less than five minutes' stroll away, where there's also plenty of space to for ball games and dog walking. Barbecues and campfires are allowed: most handy if you land yourself a fish or two in the Wye or decide to pick up a few sausages in Coleford… Otherwise, there's a good traditional English pub in Newland, a short walk away, and another in Staunton within a 30-minute woodland ramble. The wider local area has plenty of pubs, restaurants and takeaways (many of which are happy to deliver straight to the site).

What customers say

Greenacres Campsite earns praise for its prime Forest of Dean location with direct access to stunning hikes. Guests rave about the spotless, modern facilities and warm showers. Friendly staff, the on-site shop, and cafe are big pluses. Spacious, level pitches are standard. Minor points: the access road, occasional Wi-Fi issues, and a play area needing upgrades. Highly recommended for its tranquility and value.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Large pitches, friendly people working in the shop - they were extremely helpful bringing our food order and fire pit to our pitch as I had my 9 year old and 10 month old with me. Selection of essentials in the shop. Coffee and food was very tasty and quick. Very peaceful with lots of walks and things to do within a 5-10 minute drive of the campsite. The shower block was extremely clean and spacious and they had a family room which had a baby bath and changing area which was amazing. All of the pitches are electric optional which was very easy to use as beginners to electric pitches! We would never go back to non electric pitches now.

Power optional gravel campsite

Liked spacious pitches, some pitches on grass field are away from any facilitys, but facilities are clean and well kept. host's are friendly and helpful. Good site for bikes with access to forest tracks.

Disliked electric connection difficult, using QR code, and expensive. Steap drive up to site on rough track, problem if you meet anyone coming down.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked A really lovely site that we hope to visit again one day. Big pitches, spotlessly clean facilities and a little shop. Great for people with kids. Lots of places to walk the dog nearby

Disliked Only thing that would be useful is a little shower shelf to put the shampoo/ shower gel on as difficult for people with limited mobility.

Local attractions

Outdoorsy types are well catered to around here, with canoeing and paddleboarding at Symonds Yat Rock, archery and clay pigeon shooting in St Briavels, and pony trekking at Bream. If you're into golfing, then you're also in luck: Coleford has two courses, both less than 10 minutes' drive away. Follow the walking trail through the ancient 14-acre forest of Puzzlewood – the location for the filming of Dr Who, Star Wars, Merlin and Atlantis – to see rock formations and twisted trees, or visit Clearwell Caves to learn about the forest's 4,500-year ore and ochre mining heritage, both within a couple of easy miles of the site. Heaps of historic spots are within easy reach of Greenacres Campsite too, including Tintern Abbey's ruins and the castles of Raglan, Goodrich and Chepstow. The Dean Heritage Centre is a short drive away in the valley of Soudley, and comes highly recommended by Greenacres staff.
