  • Spacious family-owned site in the Cotswolds
  • Five minutes' drive from Cirencester and 25 from Cheltenham
  • A 15-minute drive from Bibury and the start of the Thames Path
A getaway full of fab scenery, peaceful wanders and historical streetscapes… and bringing the dog along for the journey? It’s a cinch at Mayfield Park, a family-friendly and family-owned Gloucestershire site five minutes’ drive from the market town of Cirencester and the pretty village of Bibury. This is a top spot to use as a base for explores of the spectacular Cotswolds. Overlooking the Churn valley, the site has easy access to plenty of local walks and scenic villages – just ask in reception for recommendations – and the long-distance Thames Path (so long it’ll take ramblers all the way to London) starts about 15 minutes’ drive away for lengthy treks. Exploring without needing to use feet or pedals is simple round here too: the bus route for Cirencester and Cheltenham passes the site and there’s a stop about 100 feet from the entrance; otherwise pile everyone into the car for the five-minute ride to Cirencester or the 25-minute canter to Cheltenham. Be sure to head back to the site in time to catch the sun setting over the fields, then settle in for an evening of barbecues as canine pals stretch out in the grass. Want a break from cooking? Sniff out one of the local pubs serving local eats to get a taste of Gloucestershire.

What customers say

A well-kept, clean site near the Cotswolds & Cirencester. Friendly staff and spotless facilities (music in washrooms!) are highlights. Pitches are spacious, some with hedges. Occasional road noise and gentle slopes noted, but overall guests loved it and want to return.

FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Not much. Small enclosed dog run.

Disliked Ridiculously tight entrance. Very slopey site.
Very noisy on account of A417 flyover nearby. Several staff useless, no knowledge of local area, unable to provide directions, unable to explain own WiFi, which actually wasn't available anyway.

Primitive grass campsite (sloping)

Liked Lovely campsite in a good location, good non electric pitches with a view of the hills, Toilet facilities were very clean and maintained.

Disliked Only dislikes were: the walk to the toilet facilities from where we we pitched and the fact there was no longer an on site shop.

Primitive grass campsite (sloping)

Liked Nice clean site and amenities, nice walk into town (40mins) pitch fairly level

Disliked Our Pitch (94) was close to the road and bridge, noisy with a constant thud from the bridge and topped off via a cockerel just before sun rise.

FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked We loved this place so much, it was professionally run, really well ordered, with a beautiful and varied mixture of accommodation options. We were there with a hired motorhome, and had a hard standing space which provided everything we wanted.

We visited Chedworth Roman Villa, which we would absolutely recommend, it was fantastic, and is National Trust.

Disliked People have mentioned the noise from the roads, and I suppose it depends on what your expectations are. We knew that we wanted accessibility because we were travelling around the area. If you were looking for a quiet Meadow somewhere, then perhaps this wouldn’t be it, but it is a great campsite with everything you need.

Primitive grass campsite (sloping)

Liked The pitches are well spaced and have great views over the countryside. The site is in a great location for Cirencester by car and bike (there's a quiet route just off the main road along a country lane). There is a lovely gazebo with seating for access to free wifi. Loads of facilities available and very helpful, friendly staff.

Disliked The main road is quite noisy but does quieten down at nighttime.

Local attractions

With Cheltenham racecourse a mere 30 minutes’ drive away, this site is a prime pick for horsey types – but if the gee-gees don’t have the family galloping for joy, there are other four-legged, fleet and feathered options at the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens, also half an hour from base. If the Cotswold Gardens grow enthusiasm for stately houses and grand designs, there’s plenty else hereabouts to entice: Chavenage House, Berkeley Castle, Bowood House, Sudeley Castle, Newark Park and Dyrham Park are all within an hour for old piles, and Westonbirt Arboretum and the gardens at Highgrove (Charlie and Camilla’s royal digs) are definitely worth a turn half an hour away. For more urban explores, start 15 minutes from the site in the scenic village of Bibury to have a poke around the Chedworth Roman Villa, travel on to Bourton-on-the-Water (20 minutes) for Birdland, a maze, a motoring museum and a model village, then take things up a notch in Cirencester, where there are Roman remains, museums, markets, parks and a manor house all waiting for visitors. Keep things soothingly low-key with a spin on the Swindon and Cricklade steam railway, 25 minutes away, or get a bit more active with watersports, paintball, fishing and horse riding at Cotswold Water Park or an adrenaline-fuelled day at the Gloucestershire Rally School, both within 20 minutes.
