  • Scenic caravan site set in 50 acres’ worth of lakes and woodland
  • On the edge of the Peak District, a 20-minute drive from Bakewell
  • Dog-friendly and adults-only spot with seven fishing lakes and a café
Flock to 50 acres of wildlife-rich woodland and lakes for an escapade to the eastern edge of the Peak District National Park at Barlow Country Club. Whether you want to unwind or explore, this Derbyshire destination has you covered – being an adults-only site, it’s a few notches more peaceful than your average park and has tons of space for chilling out or having a wander amid nature. There’s also a café serving food all day for relaxed meals on base, plus a couple of pubs – and a coffee shop and a gift store – are a 15-minute walk away in the centre of Barlow. Bites can be grabbed in between carp fishing and coarse fishing at the seven lush lakes on site (and lessons are available if you’re new to the sport). For trout fishing, there is a spot 25 minutes' drive away. Those keen on kicking it around top Peak District tourist spots while here might like to take the 20-minute drive to stately homes like Chatsworth House and famed villages such as Bakewell. The park is also 25 minutes from Ladybower reservoir for roams around spectacular spots like the Upper Derwent valley. Walks are, of course, cracking on site as well with 50 acres to adventure around. Guests can also drag the dog along on dawdles as Barlow Country Club is a pet-friendly place.

Liked The size of the pitch was really generous.

There are some fabulous circular walks from the site which were enjoyed with our dog.

This was a peaceful site for the most part. There were some parties around that we could hear but they finished at reasonable time.

Fantastic pub in the village Tickled Trout food was delicious staff were lovely.

Disliked We weren’t greeted at any point but had good text directions and instructions the day before and day of our arrival.

Hedges very untidy and way too high.

Hard standing required weeding.

The Elsan point was in a shed that was difficult to unbolt and high off the ground.

Waste water area was untidy and in disrepair. Bin area just a jumble of numerous bins.

The whole site was in great need of some TLC which is a shame as it has great potential.

Unsure why it calls itself a Country Park.

The fishing lakes beside the site were fabulous but there was no easy access from the pitches making it less attractive. Very disappointed in it and definitely not value for money. I guess the fees haven’t changed since the facilities block fell into disuse. Can’t emphasise enough how beautiful this could be if some tension was given to these areas.

Liked The pitches were spacious, well spaced and having our own individual water supply made life easier. The site was clean and tidy with well mown grass. Night time security was okay with locked gates. Level pitches.

Disliked The hedges around the pitches were a bit too high and imposing. The padlock on the gates at night was fiddly and time consuming. The site would have benefited with lighting at the gate, chemical disposal point and in general.

Liked The tree-lined, enclosed pitches offer ample privacy and the delightful sounds of birdsong.
Prompt response to text messaged queries.

Disliked The gate is broken.
The electric hookup is functional, but dirty and partially obscured by trees.
The on-site cafe is actually a 10-minute walk away, through the Fisheries.
There are many huts, buildings etc that appear to be abandoned.
There is no visible staff.
There is no country club.

Liked Incredible site - visited numerous times over the past year. Highly recommend.
Private pitches, peace and quiet (usually see below)! Joanne is very welcoming, pubs in the area are superb.

Disliked Really hoping this place doesn’t get overrun with the entitled idiots that found their way on this bank holiday. One person found it okay to pitchup on someone’s pitch despite us telling him someone was on it and their electric cable was plugged in. We made him aware of a spare pitch but “he liked the look” of the one he stole so took it despite it clearly being first come first served pick your own pitch. Also please reconsider allowing the panel van camper type conversions as the one next to us drove us insane with the door sliding open and closing numerous times during the night!

Local attractions

Checking out Chatsworth House (20 minutes’ drive) is a must while you’re here – this stately home is set in vast parkland edged by woodland, craggy hills and heather moors, so it’s an excellent choice for explores on foot. Inside the posh pad is a sizeable collection of art, ranging from Old Masters' drawings to neoclassical sculptures. Bakewell – yes, home of the tasty tarts – is also a sweet spot for a stroll thanks to having old cottages, tiny alleys and tucked-away courtyards to totter around, as well as a river to roam beside (20 minutes). If you’re an eager trekker seeking more of a challenge, mosey along the Monsal Trail starting from Coombs Viaduct, a mile south east of Bakewell, and leading 8.5 miles to Topley Pike junction in Wye Dale, passing by Peak District hotspots like Headstone Viaduct, Cressbrook Mill and Litton Mill enroute. Further on (around 50 minutes) are other popular places for pottering around, like Dovedale valley with its wooded ravine and the 517-metre Mam Tor hill near Castleton, christened one of the Seven Wonders of the Peak by 17th-century philosopher Thomas Hobbes because of its dreamy views.
