  • Luxury ensuite shepherd's hut at a peaceful Peak District farm
  • Direct access to walking trails; a mile and a half from Hope
  • Handcrafted kitchen, woodburning stove and firepit included
Peak District walks and outings by day, and a fabulously cosy place to stay by night… that's the enticing mix on offer at Oaker Farm, tucked away at the end of a no-through road about a mile and a half from Hope village centre. This Derbyshire setting is peaceful indeed, with stunning views over the Hope Valley and a complete lack of traffic noise. That in itself is quite the luxury, but there’s even more to look forward to inside Haddy’s Hut, a stylish and well-appointed shepherd’s hut that makes a lovely base for a walking holiday, a romantic retreat or just a bit of peace and quiet. Your accommodation here is a bespoke and handcrafted hut with a bright and airy interior that’s been designed to the highest standard, with features including a woodburning stove, underfloor heating and a cosy double bed. It’s also got an ensuite bathroom (with fluffy towels provided of course) and a handmade fully equipped kitchen with an oven, hob and grill. That kitchen should help you sort meals easily enough, but if it's a fine day you may well prefer to wander out into the outdoor space to cook on the barbecue. There’s a firepit out there too, plus patio furniture and lanterns for a bit of added atmosphere. Getting out and about should be straightforward from here – several footpaths run from the site, and the village of Hope has a train station and a couple of bus stops for jaunts further afield. Also in the village are a deli, a small supermarket, a butcher and an Indian restaurant/takeaway.

Local attractions

There are plenty of places to get out for a good hike or bike ride around the Peak District – and some of the top spots are very close by, including the trails around Mam Tor (an hour's walk) and Bamford Edge (an hour and a half). Edale (10 minutes' drive) has the start of the Pennine Way, and it's about a 25-minute drive to the trailhead for Kinder Scout and Jacob’s Ladder. Not all the interest is above ground – it's worth taking a trip to Castleton (10 minutes) to venture beneath the surface at Blue John Cavern and Speedwell Cavern. And after you’ve done all your walking and cave-exploring, you could cool off with a dip in the outdoor pool in Hathersage (10 minutes). Two local towns worth stopping by at are the elegant spa town of Buxton (35 minutes) and Bakewell (half an hour), the home of the famed puddings. Meanwhile, both Haddon Hall (35 minutes) and the Chatsworth estate (half an hour) both make grand days out too.
