  • Peaceful High Peak site on the edge of Chapel-en-le-Frith
  • A 15-minute drive to Buxton; 40 minutes to Chatsworth Estate
  • Train station, shops, pubs and cafés within easy walking distance
Head to the High Peak area and a campsite that’s highly peaceful but also very handily placed. Sacred Nature Campsite is just on the edge of Chapel-en-le-Frith, putting it within easy reach of the town’s shops, cafés and pubs. That location is also just a short walk from the train station, making this a good place to consider if you’re looking for an easy jaunt into the Peak District via public transport from Manchester. Trains also run from here down to Buxton so you can explore the spa town too. However you choose to travel, this is an excellent location for exploring the Peak District National Park – a half-hour drive gets you to all sorts of top spots including Mam Tor and Poole’s Cavern & Country Park. In between all of those, of course, are lots of places to get out for a scenic walk or bike ride along quiet pathways and lanes. Owners Chris and Rebecca run a wellbeing business that organises meditation and yoga retreats, so you can be sure they’re also channelling that spirit into making their campsite a peaceful and relaxing place to be. With that in mind, they’ve kept the site generally quite simple but with all the essentials in place – guests have access to toilets, showers, a washing-up area and charging facilities. Kids, dogs, groups and barbecues are all permitted at this laidback location, but please remember that there's no music allowed at all and quiet hours must be kept in the evenings so everyone can get a restful night’s sleep.

Local attractions

Where to start with the Peak District National Park? Well, you may like to make your way to Edale (25 minutes’ drive) for a trip to Blue John Cavern and an ascent of Mam Tor. Kinder Scout (35 minutes) is close by for those who need a bit more of an uphill challenge, while those in search of something more gentle may like to take a walk around the ‘plague village’ of Eyam (half an hour). Also nicely relaxing is a stroll around the smart town of Buxton (15 minutes), although you can up the energy levels with a canoe trip from the town. If you’d prefer to be in the water there’s a lovely open-air pool in Hathersage (half an hour). You won’t be short of options if you like to tour a historic house as part of your holiday – take a tour of the National Trust estate used as the location for TV’s Pride and Prejudice over at Lyme (35 minutes) or spend the day at Chatsworth (40 minutes) to see the lavish mansion, hit the adventure playground and pick up goodies at the farm shop.

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite

Liked: Relaxed site, nice laid back owner, great price. From what I understand the site has/is in the process of being taken over/started back up. It definitely has potential I think as being a good "wild" relaxed campsite. I think the facilities are due a deep clean at some point this week so if that happens then I would definitely recommend this site.

Disliked: It's next to a train line (doesn't affect me but if you are a light sleeper then consider this) facilities aren't quite up to scratch yet.
