Drive into site

  • Peaceful adults-only farm stays in the Derbyshire Dales
  • A 10-minute drive to Ashbourne, Carsington Water and the Peak District
  • Family-run site with direct access to a public footpath
Point your compass towards the Derbyshire Dales and scoop up an adults-only stay at Offcote Grange, a well-kept family farm a couple of miles outside of the market town of Ashbourne. Tempted by the prospect of sleeping in the grounds of a 17th-century farmhouse? For those looking for grownup holidays, there's the added bonus that there'll be no noisy kids scurrying around site. Mild mischief is laid on (quietly and at a safe distance) by Offcote Grange's cheeky donkeys, who cavort through neighbouring paddocks as the farm's herd of cattle looks on. (Please note that the site is unable to accept dogs because of the livestock on site.) These lush green Derbyshire fields and ancient trees are kept in admirably good nick. While animals graze gracefully in their field, owners Pat and Chris tend to the lawns and large gardens. This tourer-friendly spot has a gated hard driveway for easy arrivals and departures, with facilities housed in a purpose-built block that has three sinks, toilets and a shower. Several water taps and a waste disposal point are also on hand, and if you need to dispose of waste, ask the owners. Stepping out to tour the surrounding Henmoor Valley could hardly be simpler, as there's a well-trodden footpath that passes right by the front of the farm. It's possible to traipse through the fields down to Ashbourne, but if you're planning on loading up on treats at the deli and other specialist food shops, you might want to clear the car boot and drive the 10 minutes into town instead.

What customers say

Peaceful, well-kept site with stunning views. Hosts Pat & Chris are friendly and helpful. Immaculate facilities. Animals on-site. Walkable to Ashbourne. A few minor notes: uneven pitch, less-than-ideal Elsan point.

Liked Very welcoming and friendly owners with a cute dog, always a bonus! Large pitch but with a slope so levellers required. Lovely location, away from it all with some beautiful views over the hills from the gardens, which the owners are happy for you to use. Resident donkeys were friendly! The new shower block was clean with 2 toilets and another in the wet room shower. Plug points near the sink for a hair-dryer & electric shower so always hot water. There is currently no cover over the outside washing up sink and no hot water, which I'm sure the owners are working on - means boiling a kettle to wash up and taking a brolly if it rains. We cycled to the Tissington Trail from the site; a couple of big hills but just a mile, so easy to walk the toughest bits. Overall, a really nice stay where there were just 4 pitches and everyone was respectful with no loud noise - heaven!

Liked Peace and tranquility, friendly welcome, great views and lovely grounds, donkeys also came to say hello. Basic site but we already knew that from the description so no problem with that.

Disliked Elsan point was just a covered hole at ground level, trees and bushes growing over it and had to use the long garden hose to rinse out the cassette unit. A better sign for the site would be a welcome addition as we almost drove past and if you do visit ( no reason not too) make sure you enter from the Ashbourne side as this makes it the 1 mile of single track road rather than the extra narrow 2 mile lane from the other side.

From the manager: Dear Julian
Thank you for your review on your stay with us over the weekend. I was saddened by some of your ratings as i'm sure you are aware reviews count for a lot in marketing.
Location , the views, peaceful place, space and freedom to explore our beautiful grounds are one of our biggest selling points and I am pleased that you liked them.

There are three access roads to us and we do advise when guests contact us to always come via Ashbourne. I will make this clear on Pitch up site so thank you for this feedback.

You express concerns over signage but both drives have large signage regarding access to our site, was there any in particular that you can suggest adjusting to help people?
.
We believe and feed back says, that we are good value for money, very few rules, BBQ,s allowed, electricity, water and a shower block , with 3 WC, 3 sinks and a shower provided, with hairdryer socket and shaver socket available. A cold water pot washing sink is also provided..

The shower block is a new build and of a very good standard. and is cleaned daily. I went in to clean after departure and other than a very little grass on the entrance floor it was immaculate, I still cleaned it again, Walking around the gardens which I haven't mowed for just under 3 weeks due to the dry weather, i noticed the geese and goslings- 9 of them have been leaving little presents, normally this is mowed weekly to remove them- i hope this wasn't an issue, they fly in August when it then resolves itself.

We don't offer any facilities other than the above so I'm really not sure what you were expecting. We also don't offer activities on our advert so I don't understand why were marked down on things we don't advertise.

I met you within minutes of you ringing to say you had arrived, gave you the option of two pitches ( you actually had two pitches combined to make 1 large one, and i personally showed you around inviting you to enjoy exploring our grounds and gardens. You also asked if you could stay later than 10.30 am to which I immediately agreed- we try to accommodate requests.from our customers..Was this good customer service or not ?

You commented on the emptying of your waste, this was not something you requested or mentioned as my husband always helps if required, the flat lid you used was the lid to our septic tank which is a standard installation..

I suppose what I am asking is why the marks out of 10 are so low.

I would appreciate your feed back on the above please- I do strive to improve things for guests in order to get the best ratings I can fro guests and ratings.

Kind regards
Pat

Liked Pat, Chris (and Harris the dog) gave us such a warm welcome; such lovely hosts. Pat showed bus round and what was what. Easy check in and payment. Absolutely peaceful site, easy to find and lovely scenery. Electric grass pitch. Really tidy little site and whilst the toilet and shower block was small, it was spotless and well maintained. Scenic walk across the fields into Ashbourne was around 40 minutes and well worth it. Would return without question.

Disliked Nothing. All good.

Liked Wonderful tranquil location with views over rolling hills. Lovely hosts in the large grounds of a beautiful country house. Modern clean toilets x3 and 1 shower, it’s a small site so the facilities were proportional, pitches were generously sized. A true escape from the rat race, the donkeys were a welcome added bonus

Disliked Nothing.

Liked Wow!
Beautiful site had all the amenities that we needed. The setting is picturesque with a small lake (a couple of geese families taking their babies for a swimming lesson and some huge fish patrolling their environment. ) Birdsong adds to the calm atmosphere and the walled garden a haven for multiple insects.
The hosts were extremely welcoming and provided useful local information.

Route directions

There are three access roads to the site, but two of them are single-track roads and are not suitable for large vehicles. Therefore, the site recommends you always set your Satnav and other devices for Ashbourne first, and then reset the location to Offcote Grange (DE6 1JQ) to use the best road. At the top of a hill, there is a sign for Offcote Grange and Billy's Bothy on your right. Drive straight past this sign. At the end of the hedgerow, there is a gate on the right. There are two large signs pointing you down the drive.

Local attractions

Keeping things local? It's a doddle to get from this well-located site to loads of nearby locales of note, whether you're keen to potter around Ashbourne's antiques shops, stride through the Derbyshire Dales or go boating on nearby Carsington Water (all 10 minutes' drive). Holidaymakers of an outdoorsy disposition are also a 10-minute drive from the edge of the Peak District National Park, a playground for walkers, pedallers and horsey folk. If you have a soft spot for stately homes, the surrounding Derbyshire countryside is also where to find cool country piles like Norbury Hall (20 minutes), Kedleston Hall (30 minutes) and Chatsworth House (45 minutes). Just because there are no kids about to egg you on, it doesn't mean you can't take advantage of this spot's proximity to Alton Towers (25 minutes) to zoom around on coasters of an afternoon. Go Ape Buxton (30 minutes) is also within reach if you have a head for heights but don't fancy queuing up to get your adrenaline fix.
