  • Simple grass pitches at a Buckinghamshire farm close to Winslow
  • Waddesdon Manor and Buckinghamshire Railway Centre 10 minutes' drive
  • Next door to a farm and wildlife park with farm shop
‘We have very little to offer our guests’ say the owners of Relax InTentCity… and really that’s the great selling point of the place. Sometimes, ‘very little’ is exactly what you need – and the simple, fuss-free pitches at this rural Buckinghamshire site make a fabulous place to unplug from modern life and appreciate the natural world. Aiming to give guests a real sense of fresh air and freedom, the owners of this farm site between Bicester and Aylesbury have kept the offerings minimal, sticking to just the essentials of toilets, showers and a washing-up area. In general the atmosphere here is properly laidback, with dogs welcome, barbecues allowed and guests encouraged to pick their own pitch. There’s plenty of space to choose from, as well – so you’ll be able to set your pitch up just as you want it (including bringing your car onto the pitch) and shouldn’t feel hemmed in at all. Simply chilling out, taking in the fresh air and feeling the grass under your feet might well fill a fair amount of your time here – but there’s plenty to keep you occupied nearby for days out as well. The options start just next door at Hogshaw Farm and Wildlife Park, and continue with the likes of Bletchley Park, Waddesdon Manor and the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre. On a more practical front, it’s a 10-minute drive to the local town of Winslow for convenience stores, pubs and takeaways; another food pub is about three miles away if you’d like to eat out close to base.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The host was very welcoming and approachable. The facilities were clean and never busy. The toy library was an unexpected bonus and kept the kids amused all weekend. Plenty of space and nice flat pitches.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Nice and relaxed. Very basic, but that's the point! Plenty of space, a well maintained and clean toilet and shower, a sink and drinking water. What else do you need? Great location, we visited Hogshaw (next door!) And Buckinghamshire railway centre just down the road.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: At first quiet, Amy very helpful and professional. Parked with 2 good views. Good value for money.

Disliked: No hot water or rain cover for dishwashing area, neighbours running generator most of day until I saw a member of staff to ask them to turn it off overnight.

Local attractions

If you’ve got kids to entertain, well, how handy is it to have a family attraction just next door? ‘Very handy indeed’ is the answer – especially when it’s something as good as Hogshaw Farm & Wildlife Park, where you can meet all sorts of animals at the farm barn and wildlife zone, follow a nature trail and let the kids charge about at the play area (with go karts and a giant jumping pillow). There’s a farm shop here too for some tasty eats back to take away. Another good visit for all the family is Bletchley Park (25 minutes’ drive), home of the famed World War II codebreakers. Just next door is the National Museum of Computing, making a good two-centre day out for those interested in the history of tech. There’s more heritage at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre (10 minutes), where you can ride the miniature train, see vintage trains and follow a circular walking trail. For something that’s very much alive and well, walk around the gorgeous gardens at Waddesdon Manor (10 minutes) before taking a tour of the grand house itself.
