Great site in easy reach of Reading, but nice and quiet too.

Liked: Nice and quiet. Lots of space. Friendly owners and nice walks nearby. The kids loved the swings in the trees.
Disliked: We knew there were no showers, but I think in future we would only come back if showers were available. It was 25 degrees and just not pleasant not being able to shower.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We’re glad that you enjoyed the space and the walks and also that your children enjoyed the simple pleasure of the swing.
We’re sorry to hear that you wouldn’t visit again because we don’t offer shower facilities. We keep this policy under review and all feedback is much appreciated. It certainly was a very hot weekend!
Best wishes

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked: Very beautiful campsite and in a great location as it's near many attractions like Thorpe Park and a Sainsbury's for supplies. Also some lovely wildlife on the area, managed to see some deer before the site became busy!
The Farmer /owners were incredibly friendly and hospitable. You could come and go at anytime which was very nice, just remember to respect the other campers if it's nighttime. You were also allowed a BBQ as long as it wasn't on the grass. There were some supplies to do so for a small fee and a nearby farm shop for firewood etc.
Important to understand that it is fundamental camping - no showers or glamorous toilets. You also had to park your car on the hard standing to the side of the field (if using a tent). The Farmer explained this is for safety as children often play in the long grass. Personally we did not find this a problem as the walk between tent and car was about 30 seconds.
Make you you enter from the yellow sign to avoid the ford.
Overall had a very pleasant stay and would come back again!

Liked: The location is fantastic, peaceful, and scenic. It felt like a very safe place to stay with kids, which made the experience even more enjoyable as a family.
The atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly, and the people there are incredibly welcoming.
One highlight was the owner’s dog, who joined us in the evening and was very well behaved, especially around the children. It added a nice, homely touch to our stay.
The on-site café is a real gem. It’s attached to a butchers and serves excellent quality meat and freshly prepared food. While the menu is limited, everything we tried was delicious.
Overall, Ellis Hill offers a wonderful blend of safety, adventure, and great hospitality—perfect for a family getaway.
Disliked: There wasn’t much to dislike, but a few things are worth mentioning. The W/C facilities are very basic, although clean and functional, and as stated in the listing, so we knew what to expect.
Still, families with small children or those used to more developed amenities might find them a bit too simple.

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review. We’re so glad you enjoyed your stay with us and we really appreciate your feedback.
Thank you for drawing attention to the basic nature of the facilities. It’s really important for prospective guests to know what to expect at our site. There are other campsites nearby which offer more sophisticated amenities, but guests tend to come to us for a bit of a back to nature experience.
We look forward to seeing you again soon, and so does Digger the dog!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked: Lovely quiet place (except for the aeroplanes) and the deer in the evenings and mornings were delightful.
Disliked: Not supposed to park next to a tent.
Ground very uneven.
Toilets very basic.
No showers ; no hot water; no washing up facilities except a basin next to the urinals
No waste or recycling facilities
Recommend to friends Visit again
From the manager: We’re very sorry that you didn’t have a positive experience with us, although it’s good to know that you enjoyed the peace, quiet and wildlife. It is hard to avoid aircraft noise this close to Heathrow, so that is rather beyond our control.
We would urge all prospective guests to check our terms and conditions before booking and we address your points below:
Thank you for providing an opportunity for us to reiterate that parking beside tents is not generally permitted. We try to create a car-free zone so that children can play in the part of the field designated for tents.
As stated in the description of the site, the site does have some undulations and we recommend sturdy footwear.
The toilets are indeed, as stated, basic and we do not have showers here.
Rubbish can be deposited in the bins at the gate.
We very much welcome guests who are keen on a back to nature break, and we’re sorry that our campsite didn’t meet your expectations.
Best wishes
