  • Family-friendly campsite in quiet Berkshire countryside near Bracknell
  • A 15-minute drive to Legoland Windsor; half an hour to Thorpe Park
  • Spacious grass pitches with a play park adjacent; pubs across the road
Calling families, tourers, digital nomads, dog lovers and all in between – Scotlands House Campsite is secluded, family-run and based in Warfield, near Bracknell in Berkshire. The setting is a level, two-and-a-half-acre field with well-maintained pitches sheltered by mature trees. Despite its rural location, the site is handy for lively Berkshire towns like Windsor, Ascot, Maidenhead and Wokingham, and as central London (1.5 hours’ drive) is so convenient, it’s an easy spot for last-minute weekend breaks from the big smoke. Thanks to its proximity to the M4 and M3 motorways, the site also makes a convenient overnight stop if you’re off on a tootle around the south west, south Wales or even over into Europe. Dog-lovers can connect with decent walks right from the field, and digital nomads can sneak off into the communal marquee with wifi if they can’t resist getting a bit of work done on their holidays. Most of all, however, Scotlands House really hits the spot for family holidays. The field is safely positioned down a private lane, and there’s a playground adjacent to the field. Even better – it’s less than half an hour’s drive to Legoland Windsor Resort, Windsor Castle, Coral Reef Bracknell’s Waterworld (remember that for rainy days) and Thorpe Park Resort. You won’t need to worry about keeping everyone fed and watered either, as there are pubs and restaurants across the road. Please note: there are no flushing toilets or showers on site, but you can hire camping loos (and a toilet tent) from the owners.

Local attractions

The kids will probably be clamouring for day trips to Leogland Windsor Resort (15 minutes’ drive) for splash parks and 4D shows, but this site is also handily close to the thrill rides and water slides at Thorpe Park Resort (half an hour). If you haven’t had your fill of theme parks by then, try Warner Bros. Studio Tour London (50 minutes) for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, or hit up Chessington World of Adventures Resort (an hour) and its zoo and aquarium. After all those action-filled days out, you might well appreciate the peace of a leisurely dog walk in Swinley Forest (15 minutes); if the kids are still needing more action, let them loose on the challenging mountain-bike trails and treetop zip wires. For more grown-up days out, book tickets to tour the renovated apartments at Windsor Castle (20 minutes), or coincide with Royal Ascot race week at Ascot Racecourse (15 minutes) to hobnob with royalty and perhaps back a few winners. Golfers can also play rounds on the hallowed 18-hole championship golf courses at Wentworth or Sunningdale golf clubs (both 20 minutes).
