  • Quiet grass pitches on a working farm in the Chiltern Hills
  • A five-minute drive to Whipsnade Zoo; walk out to Dunstable Downs
  • Alpacas and sheep on site; pubs within easy walking distance
Farm sites are fab places to stay for family holidays – and the location of New Green End Farm, in the Chiltern Hills National Landscape between the villages of Kensworth and Whipsnade, is a particularly excellent one. And why would that be? Well, this Bedfordshire location is just a couple of miles from Whipsnade Zoo, meaning that you can walk there in half an hour or so, or maximise your time among the animals by driving there in five minutes. You can stroll straight out into the Dunstable Downs too, and there are a couple of pubs within walking distance for post-outing meals and drinks. If that's not enough walking yet, spend some time wandering around the farm as well – there are miles of pathway to wander along at this working farm, and lots of animals to spot along the way (including sheep and alpacas). That large open space makes for a mighty peaceful place to stay as well, and the grass pitches have been kept on the simple side to make the most of that rural atmosphere. They’re set well back from the main road and surrounded by woodland and open fields, with access to toilets, showers and a washing-up area, plus recycling facilities to keep the place nice and clean. Barbecues and campfires are permitted for that classic outdoor evening vibe, and dogs are welcome to join you on site here. There are a few village stores and farm shops scattered around the vicinity, but for major supplies your best bet is Dunstable, which is five minutes' drive away and home to a couple of large supermarkets.

What customers say

This roomy, tranquil campground has a laid-back vibe. Clean, basic amenities, including hot showers, toilets, and a communal kitchen with fridge/freezer, are well-kept. Guests liked the handy location for local walks and pubs. Despite some noting aircraft noise and occasional camper issues, staff were often lauded for friendliness. A great pick for a peaceful getaway.

Liked Martin and Ian were perfect hosts. This was our first visit and they went that extra mile for us. If you want to recharge your batteries and get away from the hustle and bustle of life this is the perfect place.
We were able to pitch up where we wanted to and we had the use of the facilities 24 /7. The toilets were clean and they even had 2 outside showers. A small communal kitchen area where you could store food in a fridge and freezer with washing up area made life easier ( there is CCTV in the kitchen area to make sure items are safe). There was also an outside tap for drinking water.
There was a public footpath that took you either towards Whipsnade zoo or Dunstable Downs and a lovely local pub The Farmer's Boy in the other direction.
With very little light pollution this is an ideal place for star gazing.

Liked It was quiet and the pitches (electric) were really spaced out. Good facilities

Disliked They bleached the floor of the toilets, no warning signs, and now we have a ruined pair or trousers!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi and thanks for the feedback and we are pleased that you liked our site but unfortunately had an issue with the cleaning of the floors and the use of bleach, we have advised our cleaner to reduce the amount of bleach used whilst cleaning and hopefully this won't happen again.

Martin

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Quiet field, very clean toilets and pot wash area. I was surprised that the outside shower provided hot water.
Helpful/flexible owner.

Disliked Small improvement would be to exchange some of the many sweets and snacks in the vending machine to be real food, if possible.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your comments and we will look into the food. We do have to be careful with sell by dates and temperature control but we will review what is stocked

Local attractions

Whipsnade Zoo (five minutes' drive) is the big draw around here, of course – this offshoot of the Zoological Society of London is home to more than 10,000 animals from around the world, and it’s also got several play areas and a steam railway. To spend more time in the open air, you may like to stroll through the National Trust’s Dunstable Downs estate (25 minutes’ walk), walk through the Whipsnade Tree Cathedral (20 minutes) or pick any one of the scenic trails running through the chalk landscapes of the Chiltern Hills National Landscape. Golfers may like to get out onto the greens at Dunstable Downs Golf Club (three minutes’ drive) or Whipsnade Park Golf Club (10 minutes). A little further afield, there’s go-karting, indoor snow sports and the National Museum of Computing up in Milton Keynes (half an hour), a castle in Berkhamsted and a steam railway in Buzzard (both 20 minutes). For a special day out, it's a half-hour drive to the Harry Potter Studio Tour.
