  • Quiet grass pitches on a working farm in the Chiltern Hills
  • A five-minute drive to Whipsnade Zoo; walk out to Dunstable Downs
  • Alpacas and sheep on site; pubs within easy walking distance
Farm sites are fab places to stay for family holidays – and the location of New Green End Farm, in the Chiltern Hills National Landscape between the villages of Kensworth and Whipsnade, is a particularly excellent one. And why would that be? Well, this Bedfordshire location is just a couple of miles from Whipsnade Zoo, meaning that you can walk there in half an hour or so, or maximise your time among the animals by driving there in five minutes. You can stroll straight out into the Dunstable Downs too, and there are a couple of pubs within walking distance for post-outing meals and drinks. If that's not enough walking yet, spend some time wandering around the farm as well – there are miles of pathway to wander along at this working farm, and lots of animals to spot along the way (including sheep and alpacas). That large open space makes for a mighty peaceful place to stay as well, and the grass pitches have been kept on the simple side to make the most of that rural atmosphere. They’re set well back from the main road and surrounded by woodland and open fields, with access to toilets, showers and a washing-up area, plus recycling facilities to keep the place nice and clean. Barbecues and campfires are permitted for that classic outdoor evening vibe, and dogs are welcome to join you on site here. There are a few village stores and farm shops scattered around the vicinity, but for major supplies your best bet is Dunstable, which is five minutes' drive away and home to a couple of large supermarkets.

This peaceful, spacious campsite boasts clean facilities, woodland walks, and a nearby pub. Guests praise friendly hosts and a relaxed vibe. Downsides: occasional flight noise, busy-period facility strains, and camper noise. Great for short stays.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Well maintained facilities.
Great location for walking the downs.
Raised camp fires allowed.
We went mid week so there was a lot of space between campers.

Disliked Not really a dislike for us but there were lots of low flying jets, so know this before booking
Knowing the area, I wasn't expecting to camp in Kensworth and not see and hear lots of aircraft so came with binoculars.
The day we came planes were landing west to east at Luton Airport so flew directly above the campsite.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Its such a lovely, rural campsite and it not overloaded at all.
Plenty of space to move and not overlooked by your neighbour!!
A great vending machine with treats plus the use of a fridge and freezer. Label your stuff as our ice blocks got taken though by a naughty camper.
Its great for walks to Dunstable Downs and to Whipsnade zoo too.
Would highly recommend.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked we stayed as a group on the 10-12th may the property was lovely very peaceful, the facilities were clean and well maintained, when i contacted the owner prior to booking he was easy to contact and was able to give me all the information i needed, we were welcomed by the owners brother and his cute little dog flip flop who were both very friendly and gave us information on what was local around us and information on fire wood & fire bins we could hire at the site for our stay which was fairly priced and well appreciated as well as the general information on the site and what facilities there were, there was plenty privacy and any questions we had were answered it was a lovely site to stay at for a few days away

Disliked nothing :)

Local attractions

Whipsnade Zoo (five minutes' drive) is the big draw around here, of course – this offshoot of the Zoological Society of London is home to more than 10,000 animals from around the world, and it’s also got several play areas and a steam railway. To spend more time in the open air, you may like to stroll through the National Trust’s Dunstable Downs estate (25 minutes’ walk), walk through the Whipsnade Tree Cathedral (20 minutes) or pick any one of the scenic trails running through the chalk landscapes of the Chiltern Hills National Landscape. Golfers may like to get out onto the greens at Dunstable Downs Golf Club (three minutes’ drive) or Whipsnade Park Golf Club (10 minutes). A little further afield, there’s go-karting, indoor snow sports and the National Museum of Computing up in Milton Keynes (half an hour), a castle in Berkhamsted and a steam railway in Buzzard (both 20 minutes). For a special day out, it's a half-hour drive to the Harry Potter Studio Tour.
