Liked We loved the peace and quiet. Listening to birdsong during the day and seeing red kites overhead was wonderful. At dusk we were visited by bats and by night the stars were spectacular. We were even treated to a shooting star show. The other campers were really friendly and there was a great atmosphere on site all weekend. It's fantastic that the site owners limit the number of guests to avoid it becoming overcrowded.
Whilst there is only one shower it's spacious and was clean and tidy during our stay.
The washing up area was adequate and had hot water available, which was an added bonus.
There's so much to do locally too. We visited Stokesay Castle, Ludlow, Tenbury Wells and Croft Castle. We had dinner at The Rose and Crown at Burford and breakfast at Mr Thom's in Tenbury Wells, both of which we can recommend.
This site gives excellent value for money.
Disliked The recycling area was already full to capacity on arrival. We took ours home with us so be prepared for this.
Despite clear signage, other campers used the hot water taps in the toilet and washing up area whilst the shower was in use, which either made the shower go cold or turn off completely.
We are usually staunch supporters of composting toilets. However, we couldn't get on with this one. The separator is supposed to keep yellow waste going into the brown section. However, the yellow section was frequently blocked with sawdust and the brown section was very brown around the rim, which wasn't particularly pleasant. Maybe it's a female anatomy issue but there doesn't seem to be an adequate margin of error to keep the two types of waste separate. There was no sawdust left by the early hours of Sunday morning.

From the manager: We are so pleased you enjoyed the peace and quiet, birdsong. shooting stars and dark sky's, bats and the friendly relaxed atmosphere of out tiny place (just 7 pitches in a 1 acre field) I'm afraid that although we do our very best to deal with recycling and land fill waste, this is collected alternatively once a week, so if a lot has been deposited already by previous guests then it can be full, we alleviate this by removing and replacing with empty bins, and by providing bin bags for our guests so that they can recyce as much as possible and leave next to the bins for us to deal with. With regards to the loo, we clean it daily - more when the site is busy, however is someone is using it and putting shavings into the diverter we cannot be on site 24 hours a day as we are a working farm and this is a small farm diversification project which allows us to share this stunning part of the world with our guests We rely on our guests to make us aware of the problem, so we can then sort it out

Liked What a wonderful campsite. There were animals to feed, including bottle feeding lambs. We received a very warm welcome from the friendly and attentive owners. The pitches were generous and we had plenty of space. The gated entrance made us feel very secure. The facilities were immaculate. We enjoyed the peace and quiet by the firepit, stargazing and listening out for the wildlife.
Disliked There's one toilet and one shower for the site. The shower isn't very powerful. If someone flushes the toilet the shower stops for about a minute then comes back cold for a while.

From the manager: Thank you for your kind review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and found it peaceful. We appreciate your feedback, we have today looked into this and found that the shower head was slightly faulty. There is now a new one on as well as looking into the water pressure which again has been alter and is better. We look forward to seeing you all again. Take care from all of the Springfield Team

Liked A peaceful site with plenty of space. The views are amazing and there are lots of things to do within close proximity. The toilets and showers are kept very clean.
Disliked There can be a bit of a wait for the one shower and two toilet cubicles when the site is fully booked.

Liked What a wonderful space. The owners were so friendly and they've created a fantastic campsite. The pub is a brilliant bonus with the best beer garden we've ever visited. Loads of wildlife - bats, birds, lambs and so much more. Two wasn't enough so we'll be back.
Disliked Whilst it was a bit of a walk to the toilet they were well maintained and we do love a composting toilet.

Liked This was our first camping trip as a family and we can't fault it. The owners are so friendly and welcoming. Our one year old loved the pay area. We had breakfast both mornings and tea on the Saturday evening, which was all delicious. The facilities are exceptional and very well maintained, particularly for the price. Knowing the money is going to a good cause is an added bonus.
Thank you so much.

Liked We absolutely love this campsite. The flat pitches are generously sized. The shop sells all the kinds of things you might have forgotten to pack. There's food available for breakfast and tea plus a bar. The owners couldn't have done more to make us welcome. The toilets are clean and well stocked, the showers are great, hot water available. The additional touches really make this place special. It's great value for money and we can't wait to come.
Thanks you from Rachel & Wayne.

Liked The owners of this campsite have put so much effort into making it a really pleasurable experience. The toilets are kept exceptionally clean and there are free showers. Guests can bring firepits but there are some available to hire (and wood to buy) and the ashes are collected the following morning. There are washing up facilities and a freezer for blocks. The pitches are level and there's plenty of information about the local area, such as pubs and takeaways. The owners couldn't be more friendly, helpful and welcoming.

Liked This is our second stay at Barkerfields. It's a lovely site, whilst basic it does have toilets that are kept clean. Monyash is just a short walk away. The surrounding area is stunning. We hope this site pops up again next year.

Liked As soon as we'd booked we received an email from the site owner providing us with lots of really useful information. The site is spacious and the owner friendly. The toilets remained clean throughout the weekend. There are a lot of lovely walks around. We made our way to the canal, which was less than 1km away. If you've forgotten anything there are plenty of shops within walking distance. Everyone on the site was friendly and respectful to others.

From the manager: So pleased you’ve had a lovely stay and given us such a great review. I will have to find out where to get on the canal tow path myself as I didn’t realise it was so close. Hopefully see you again soon, thanks again xx

Liked Amazing views, excellent walks, clean toilets.
This is such a friendly campsite and the owner is lovely
Disliked Having stayed here last month we thought we'd have a fire again but the wood supplied smoked us out, just as it did last time.

Liked The surroundings were stunning. It was just a short walk to Lathkill Dale and Over Haddon is a twenty minute walk away. The toilets were clean. There was drinking water available. We'll definitely be back.
Disliked Because there is no sink for washing the pots some people were using the sinks in the toilet cubicles, leading to others having to queue whilst desperately needing the toilet.
Whilst we appreciate the reasons for asking guests to use the wood provided by the campsite it wasn't the best firewood and provided more smoke than flames.

Liked This site is brilliant. I received a warm welcome on my arrival and had the choice of the whole field, which was huge. The toilets were very clean. There were washing facilities and a shower. There was a freezer for ice packs and plenty of hot water to do the washing up. We particularly liked that we could have our firepit going, which we did all three nights. There was kindling and firewood available at a reasonable price.
I took a walk into Castleton, which didn't take as long as anticipated. The walk back up to the campsite wasn't easy but the views were spectacular.
We'll definitely be back.

Liked This is one of the most well equipped campsites we've stayed in and the fantastic price doesn't reflect the quality of the site. We were met with a warm welcome and were offered help in putting our tent up. The toilet block was immaculate and the showers were powerful (and free). There were also laundry facilities, sinks for washing dishes, recycling facilities and drinking water points. We really liked that site rules were clear meaning all guests showed respect for others. There are some lovely walks around the area. Some footpaths had to be accessed by walking along the quiet country lanes. We walked to Dyserth on the first day and Cwm on our second day but a walk to the coastal areas are realistic for those wishing to walk further. We really appreciated the midday checkout as we didn't feel rushed to pack up and leave. It was a wonderful couple of days and we'll definitely be back, hopefully bringing some friends too.
Disliked This isn't a dislike, as such, but it wasn't until we'd booked that we realised camp fires aren't allowed. We were informed that we could bring our firepit for cooking our meals as long as we put it out as soon as the cooking was complete. This hasn't put us off coming back though.

Liked The amount of thought and effort that has gone into this campsite is awesome. It's the third time we've been camping in the last month and this site was the best, by far.
Lots of space, clean toilets, great showers, a snack van at the weekends, fire pit hire and a well structured Covid policy.
Disliked There's nothing to dislike.

Liked The location was great and the views from the campsite were amazing. The site is easily accessible and is a brilliant base for walking. The local pub is within walking distance.
Disliked Although there is no running water available, the water source is an IBC on the back of a trailer. We chose to boil the water we used from this container.
