  • Friendly and spacious holiday park in the grounds of a Norman château
  • By the River Seine, 10 minutes' drive from Château Gaillard
  • Direct river access, tennis court, miniature golf, fishing and bar
Sometimes, you've just got to treat yourself and swap daily life for a bit of 'la vie de château'… and that's where this friendly Upper Normandy site comes in. Set in stately home grounds, with a spread of quality facilities and direct access to the scenic River Seine, it's quite simply a top spot to put down roots in while on a break in northern France. As the name implies, Château de Bouafles is in the grounds of a rather handsome manor. There's an appropriately lordly range of amenities here, including a well-equipped laundry room, fresh morning bread deliveries daily (except Wednesdays), a bar, a games room and books to borrow. If your hands need a bit of rejuvenation after making use of the site's washing-up points, simply chat to reception about getting your nails done on site – yet another potential perk of staying here. Don’t worry, the rest of your body and mind are catered for as well – there's fishing in the river, a launch where boats and kayaks can be floated, a miniature golf course, a playground and a full-size tennis court to keep guests occupied. Away from base, you can spend your downtime exploring the local area's other châteaux (including the fine specimen 10 minutes' drive away at Gaillard), sailing up and down the Seine or simply browsing the weekly street markets in Gaillon (15 minutes), Vernon (20 minutes) or Louviers (25 minutes).

Lovely, tranquil spot by the River Seine, with spacious, private sites and great facilities. Staff are friendly and helpful, with good bar/food. Wellness area a hit. Mostly excellent stays, though minor issues with lighting and noise are being sorted.

Coco Sweet 2 bedroom ready tent

Liked The setting is beautiful, very peaceful in the grounds of a chateau. We had a nice welcome and were given all the information we needed. There is a bar and food is available. We hired the Coco sweet pre-erected tent. The pitch was private, the tent was amazing and the facilities very clean. They have a wellness area for adults with Jacuzzi, small pool, sauna and a hammam, there is an extra cost for this but it is well worth it. We attended an organised night with food and disco and all the French guests were very welcoming. Its also close to Les Andelys, which is a beautiful village on the river Seine.

Power optional grass and gravel caravan site

Liked What a lovely site on the banks of the Seine. We were welcomed by Fabianne and she helped us with various issues including a garage to regas our aircon. Making several phone calls on our behalf which we were so grateful for. Bread available to order daily. Lovely terrace bar for drinks and food each evening (thank you Sofie!) We felt really relaxed. Walked our dog to the river for a walk each evening (we were there in a heatwave) and enjoyed the pool area at a small extra cost which made me feel like a millionaire as had it all to myself.

Large shady pitches in natural setting.

The shower ans toilet facilties are so clean spacious and well kept. And we used the laundry facilities for a small few too.

Well worth a drive up to Castel Gaillard for stunning views of the castle and Seine and take a picnic.

Disliked Nothing at all

Powered grass and gravel site (private bathroom amenities)

Liked Private hut for washroom facilities was lovely and clean. Nice gazebo area on the designated pitch and private bbq area. Didn’t use or see the shared washroom facilities so cannot comment on that. Nice seating area outside chateau for drinks and lovely walk into Rouen following the designated pathway

Disliked Our pitch was a bit too shaded for our preference but the private facilities made up for that.

From the manager: Thank you for your comments – they’re very much appreciated.
As for the shade from the trees, we’re sometimes asked for very shady pitches, so we don’t really like pruning the trees.
hope to see you and find a pitch with sun for you !!

Local attractions

Get set for a bit of a climb and a lot of picture-snapping at Château Gaillard (10 minutes’ drive): the grand hilltop castle, the old stomping ground of Richard the Lionheart, has mind-boggling views over the River Seine. Évreux Cathedral (30 minutes) is another site of fancy – its sheer size enough to make your head spin. For a test of strength and bravery, battle the high ropes at Acroforest (40 minutes). Alternatively, head to Golf de Gaillon (15 minutes) for a gentler piece of the action. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped right into one of Monet’s paintings at his preserved home and gardens in Giverny (25 minutes). Once you’ve had your fill of fancy plants, make room for the other face of nature and greet the animals at Biotropica Zoo (35 minutes). If city living is more down your avenue, Rouen (40 minutes) and Paris (an hour and 15) aren’t out of reach. For families with kids, you can admire all the best French cities in miniature form at France Miniature (an hour), a good pick for little feet not fit to take on the real-life cities on foot.
