  • Family-friendly smallholding in a rural location on the Llŷn Peninsula
  • Spectacular views towards the peak of Moelypenmaen
  • Lots of open space for kids to play
Get back to nature among spectacular surroundings with a stay at Gwynedd's Rhos Y Foel, in the middle of the Llŷn Peninsula a short drive from more lush landscapes at Snowdonia National Park. Set with views towards the rocky peak of Moelypenmaen, Rhos Y Foel is a small and family-friendly site, with a wide swathe of open space on which the kids can let loose. Well-behaved dogs are welcome. Rhos Y Foel is a level and almost completely flat site – no uncomfy bumpy groundsheet nights here – and has a facilities block with hot running water. Off-ground barbecues are allowed and firepits are available on site: for supplies, the local village is Boduan and the shops and services of market town Pwllheli are a few miles away.

What customers say

Awesome views, super-friendly staff (Marta's a gem!). Facilities spotless, toilets/showers updated and loved. Generous, flat pitches. Peaceful spot with good access. Some found on-site facilities lacking. Shower availability at peak times and Wi-Fi can be hit-and-miss.

Powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked The camp site is fantastic, roomy pitches and the ladies that work there are very friendly.
Perfectly located to get to anywhere on the Llyn Peninsula.
Family orientated with lots of children running around.
Toilets and shower block were kept immaculate.

Disliked The only thing missing was something like a playground for the children, or something for them to climb and explore with a slide.

Unpowered grass campervan or tent site

Liked Excellent facilities, and a lovely place to camp

Disliked A little noisy after 10pm on the Saturday night, understandably grownups want to chill and have drinks with friends but kids screaming til at least 11:30pm. Could be monitored for noise if there’s a 10pm rule however the other nights were better in the evening although that was after another camper intervened with the quiet after 10pm, we were thankful for them doing that but it should be on the owner to sort noise issues out. Would come again though the owner was lovely and noise was a minor issue on first night.

Powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked The bathrooms were spotlessly Schwab, the pitches were a great size and the views were to die for. The hosts couldn’t do enough for us and were really helpful.

Disliked Didn’t dislike anything - however, just a word of caution. Myself, my friend and our three children stayed and were playing music very quietly and chatting into the evening whilst our children slept, and there were some complaints. So not sure the site is used for social gatherings as such.

Powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked One of the smaller sites I’ve stayed at and it felt like the perfect size. All pitches had plenty of space and there was also plenty of space for children etc to play near the pitches.

The camp warden, Marta, could not have done any more for us, our friends and for the rest of the camp in general really. Present whenever you needed her, responsive over text too.

Our car broke down and she was extremely helpful and it made what could have been a very stressful situation, actually not too bad. There are far worse places to be stranded than Rhoes Y Foel!

The views are amazing, it’s so peaceful. 10 minutes into Morfa Nefyn, 15 to Pwllheli, it’s perfect.

Facilities were spotless, address freezer and kettle came in really handy.

If you are bothered about WiFi, we are with O2 and got some signal but most of the time didn’t. Our friends who are with EE got signal the whole time.

Cannot fault it one bit and already can’t wait to come back 😁

Disliked Nothing!

Local attractions

As you'll know if you've ever had the sense to go there, the Llŷn Peninsula is lovely land, with sea all around as it jabs 30 miles into the Irish Sea from north-west Wales's tip. Rhos Y Foel is in an excellent setting to get to the best of its hills and coast in the site surrounds, and to explore the mountains and other highlights of Snowdonia a short drive away. Around the peninsula, have seaside days at resorts like Abersoch, Nefyn, Morfa Nefyn and Pwllheli, all just a few miles away, or get active with afternoons among the wakeboarding, bowling, quad biking, go karting and fishing of Glasfryn Parc nearby at Pwllheli; soft play, food, a farm shop and a bar are at this latter as well. Paintball is nearby if you want to take things up a notch. Another top local option for families is the award-winning GreenWood Forest Park, where you can paddle among trees, make things work at the world's only people-powered rollercoaster, see a live show, meet the animals or try den building and archery. More animal meeting is at Dwyfor Rabbit Farm, or drive to the foot of Snowdonia for a more active family day out at Gypsy Wood. The famed 18-hole Nefyn & District Golf Club at Porthdinllaen is only a few minutes from the site.
