  • Dog-friendly fly and coarse fishing site with well-stocked lakes
  • A five-minute drive to Llandegla and a mile from the Offa’s Dyke Path
  • Tackle shop, tackle hire, café and family fishing pool
Avid angler? Or just want to have a first go at fishing? Either way, Llandegla Trout and Coarse Fishery in Denbighshire is home to well-stocked pools suitable for pretty much everyone. And that’s really no exaggeration. This family-friendly site is dotted with lakes for all levels: opt for fly fishing in two trout pools stocked with rainbow, brown, tiger and gold trout, or give coarse fishing a go in a couple of bodies of water filled with mirror and common carp, barbel, tench, bream, roach, rudd and chub. There’s also a worm fishing lake and a family fishing area for an informal intro to the sport, plus the on-site tackle shop – with kit to hire – is a handy addition for amateur anglers. Fishing aside, the park’s location a mile from ambles along the Offa's Dyke Path makes it a brill base for mountain bikers and walkers. A bunch of other outdoor activities are also available in the area, including a shooting ground and a horse-riding centre within a five-minute drive. As for sustenance (all that activity is hungry work after all), a café is on site dishing up free-range breakfasts and fresh coffee for the mornings, with other dishes available including fresh and smoked trout sourced from the park. Prefer to rustle up your own grub? Barbecues are permitted on base.

Powered concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Large pitches, well maintained site, good facilities. Nice pitch overlookig the lake. All pitches had a wooden table on them

Disliked Check in chaotic, the car park was extremely busy with day fishers. The check in is not well signed, but found our way to the cafe. We were directed to one of two pitches (told there would be someone on of the two and to take the other). Arrived to find both were taken. Walked back down to reception, the owner drove up and found us another pitch. We had booked hard standing and grass - out pitch was all grass (not a problem but not as described).

Liked Lovely picturesque site , decent pitch , well kept

Disliked No reception , No signage to tell you where to book in , Cafe is massively understaffed as they deal with bookings, fishing , tackle purchases etc
Only one set of rubbish bins for the whole site !
Children fishing unattended with hired rod With no landing net or mat or means to unhook fish ! Cars driving too fast on the site , including the owner in a black Tiguan ! Toilets are pretty clean but showers have nowhere to hang clothes , nothing to keep anything off the floor to keep dry ,
Wouldn’t book again

Powered concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Campsite and surrounding area

Disliked Paid for hard standing pitch, was given grass pitch, told to set up to the right of another motorhome then 1 hour later the owner decided to drive up at about 40 mph and say they had reserved the pitch for someone else. Shambles didn’t have to move in the end, so got to enjoy watching the owner zoom round site like she was a rally driver all afternoon

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Great spot to camp overnight or for a few days. Clean toilets and good shower. Feels like an "up market" camping spot. We didn't fish but it looked fun!
We didn't have breakfast at the cafe but it looked and smelled amazing.

Disliked Bare in mind the phone signal is a bit wobbly by the cafe.

Local attractions

Hire mountain bikes from an adventure centre a 15-minute walk from the site and soak up the stunning local scenery on a cycle ride. For those who like to fly high, the North Wales Gliding Club is five minutes’ drive away and cantering is to be had from the Cae Hic Livery & Riding Centre (the same distance away). You can also hone your gun skills at the Fauxdegla Shooting Ground (five minutes) or indulge your inner car fanatic at the Llangollen Motor Museum (10 minutes). For quieter times out in nature, lope to the Loggerheads Country Park and wander a wood-covered river valley or make your way to the Nant Mill Visitor Centre’s woodland and waterfall (all 15 minutes). Chuck a couple of structures into the mix with a visit to Dinas Brân’s castle ruins (15 minutes), then peer at the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (20 minutes), one of Telford’s Industrial Revolution designs. If the kids are in tow, take them to The Crocky Trail adventure park for stints on the slides and rope swings (35 minutes) or check out Chester Zoo’s sizable selection of animals – from aardvarks to zebras – across 51 acres of land (40 minutes).
