General

  • Dog-friendly fly and coarse fishing site with well-stocked lakes
  • A five-minute drive to Llandegla and a mile from the Offa’s Dyke Path
  • Tackle shop, tackle hire, café and family fishing pool

Avid angler? Or just want to try out trawling? Either way, Llandegla Trout and Coarse Fishery in Denbighshire is home to well-stocked pools suitable for pretty much everyone.

And that’s really no exaggeration. This family-friendly site is dotted with lakes for all levels: opt for fly fishing in two trout pools stocked with rainbow, brown, tiger and gold trout, or give coarse fishing a go in a couple of bodies of water filled with mirror and common carp, barbel, tench, bream, roach, rudd and chub.

There’s also a worm fishing lake and a family fishing area for an informal intro to the sport, plus the on-site tackle shop – with kit to hire – is a handy addition for amateur anglers.

Fishing aside, the park’s location a mile from ambles along the Offa's Dyke Path makes it a brill base for mountain bikers and walkers. A bunch of other outdoor activities are also available in the area, including a shooting ground and a horse-riding centre within a five-minute drive.

As for sustenance (all that activity is hungry work after all), a café is on site dishing up free-range breakfasts and fresh coffee for the mornings, with other dishes available including fresh and smoked trout sourced from the park.

Prefer to rustle up your own grub? Barbecues are permitted on base.

Beautiful and secluded spot right opposite the trail centre. We chose a pitch at the top lake so a fair way from the facilities but no problem for us. Staff were friendly. Reasonable price. Nice hot showers, although only two. Food in the cafe looked good but opening times didn’t suit.

    Disliked:

    Shame cafe wasn’t open longer

Tranquil camping beside a series of fish ponds. Facilities clean and well maintained. Owner friendly and accommodating. Great views. Excellent location for Offa’s dyke path.

    Disliked:

Some road noise but as expected with location next to A525. No phone reception (EE) although this could be seen as a benefit.

    Lovely setting

    Disliked:

Staff very abrupt, less that friendly and not helpful. We stayed on the camping field, nearest water tap was a good walk away in the touring field. Poor hygiene in the toilet/ shower facilities with very little in the way of covid protection. Yes there was hand sanitizer provided but not cleaning schedule.
