  • Simple and scenic farm site in the Brecon Beacons National Park
  • A 15-minute drive from Brecon and walks up Pen y Fan
  • Dog-friendly pitches with a minimum guest age of 14
Small, simple and surrounded by stunning scenery – that’s the setup at Pwllyn Farm Camping, part of a farm in the Brecon Beacons. This spot is full of rural atmosphere but it’s handy to note that it’s only a 15-minute drive to Brecon (a journey that runs along A roads all the way). Pitches at this peaceful Powys location are small in number, well spaced and designed to make the most of the setting: they’re mown around the edges of around 20 acres of hay and wildflower meadows, with lovely views over surrounding hills and fields towards Pen y Fan. Facilities on site include five toilets, two showers, two washing-up areas, a charging point for mobile phones, a communal fridge and freezer for your icepacks. A communal cooking area and eating area with stoves and utensils is also provided. There is a cassette toilet/black waste disposal point, and all taps on the farm provide drinking water. Rubbish and recycling can be placed in the large red bin by the campers' barn. Firepits are available to hire on site for a small charge, or you are welcome to bring your own as long as they are raised off the ground and do not scorch the grass. Getting out to see more of the gorgeous surroundings is easy from here: footpaths run directly from the farm onto Mynydd Illtyd Common or up onto the nearby hills for some stunning scenery. If you’re up for stretching your legs further, there are miles of footpaths and bridleways to wander along in the area. Dogs are welcome to stay at Pwllyn Farm as long as they’re accompanied by a responsible owner; the quiet atmosphere of the site also means that it’s only suitable for guests aged 14 and over.

What customers say

A tranquil spot with amazing Brecon Beacons views. Campers love the roomy pitches, clean facilities, and barn. Great for walks. Mostly superb, though shower queues can happen at busy times. Adult-only means a chilled vibe.

Unpowered grass tent or motorhome site

Liked - Views are stunning
- Authentic stay, loved the communal space and facilities
- Clean and new showers/toilets
- Honesty shop make it so handy
- So so peaceful but also touching to be around wildlife such as sheep etc.
- Owners of the farm are very approachable, especially
- I brought my cavapoo and she loved it. VERY dog friendly, you do have to keep dogs on a lead if they cant be controlled.
- I liked how this was adults only.
- Wild camping feels without the wild camping

Disliked - Did have to wait a while for a shower (only 2 showers), which is fine and can see they are developing more for 2027.
- No signal, but for me thats a positive as could really unwind.

Unpowered grass tent or motorhome site

Liked - location
- facilities (the Barn / communal area is great, especially for getting out of the sun in this heat wave)
- fridge system - great to actually have somewhere to store bits
- friendliness of owners
- honesty box / shop
- camping spots
- decent showers & bathrooms
- facilities / barn was cleaned every day
- apple juice!

Disliked - no official welcome / greet on arrival - not a massive deal, but as someone with disabilities it’s good to get my bearings

- sign sad no under 14’s, on the last night there was a family with children / toddlers on site

From the manager: Hello Kirstie

Thank you for your review and we are glad that you enjoyed your stay overall.

I must confess it would be difficult for us to meet and greet every camper that comes on site, as we are two pensioners running a busy site with multitude of tasks to complete each day, as well as taking care of our eight horses. We have a large arrival window of eight hours for our guests' convenience (although we often have to deal with late arrivals as well) and it is impossible to make ourselves continually available to greet people for that period of time, although at least one of us is always on site and always available should any camper need us. If you had any concerns at all that your disability would impact on the enjoyment of your stay in any way, you could have let us know in the multiple emails that we had from you prior to your arrival and we could have provided further information or ensured that we were contactable when you arrived. We do hope that the comprehensive information sent prior to arrival, plus the site map and information in our campers' barn helps most people to get their bearings. We are a little surprised at the comment regarding a lack of greet on arrival from you however, as Ian clearly remembers speaking to you when you arrived, as there had been some confusion regarding your booking and payment and there was an outstanding sum to be paid while you were on site with us, and you discussed this with him when you first arrived.

With regards to the young children on site - I am very shocked at this as we are strict about our policy to only allow teenage children on site. I have spoken to a friend who stayed at the same time as you, and she was unaware of any young children. Ian rides around the site on his bike several times a day and did not see youngsters. We do allow children of 14 and over, and I know we had a few of those staying. I can only say to you what I tell everyone who has a problem or concern when they are staying with us - please let us know while you are here, as that is the only way we can do anything about it. I know that you spoke to Ian before you left, as you paid your camping bill, and it would have been useful to us if you had mentioned it then, as we could have investigated further. Theresa and Ian.

Liked Great communication via email which made the stay and how to find the site hassle free.
Great walks nearby, short drive not walking distance.
Beautiful scenery.
Friendly.

Disliked Not as close to walks as the site says and fairly noisy with dogs barking through the night in the distance.

From the manager: Hello Ben

Thank you for your review.

We are confused about your comment regarding proximity of walks. The site borders Mynydd Illtyd Common, and it is a 15 minute walk along the bridleway/farm track to the National Park Visitor Centre. Directly from our site you can walk around Mynydd Illtyd Common, the Camlais Valley, Cefn Llechyd Common and the large hill opposite the site, Fan Frynach, and the National Nature Reserve. We make it clear that we are a 15 minute drive to the main carpark to walk Pen y Fan, and around 25 minutes to the Four Waterfalls as per the details in the 'Local Attractions' section of Pitch Up, so I'm not sure where you feel you have been misled on distance to walks.

The dogs that you heard in the distance are the working sheep dogs belonging to a farm in the area and thus beyond our control, although had you mentioned the problem to one of us when you were on site we could have spoken to the farmer, or offered you a pitch in one of the fields further away from the farm where the dogs are kept. Again, at the risk of repeating myself I would say that should anyone have a problem on site, provided they mention it to us we would do our utmost to improve things. Theresa and Ian.

Liked I love the facilities that they put on on behalf of the campus, including the lovely hot showers, the communal cooking area in the barn and the washing facilities for people to either wash clothes or dishes.
Very thoughtful and looks like there’s more improvements ahead for 2027!!

Disliked I know we want to get away for a break and sometimes we don’t want to be slaves to The mobile phone, but sometimes it will be nice to have the opportunity all the option to get on the worldwide Web and perhaps capabilities should be offered or available.

From the manager: Andrew,

We do not offer internet connection as it would be prohibitively expensive to add it to our private network. 4g is available in our furthest field. Politely we would suggest that if internet connection is important to you, you book sites that offer it. Our listing makes clear that we do not.

Liked One of our favourite campsites with stunning views and a real calmness, this was our fourth time visiting. It's a real treat to get a pitch with views out to Pen Y Fan and Corn Du and we were glad to see the banning of campfires this time around with the dry heat and drought over a lot of the UK. We can't wait to return again next year!

Local attractions

Being in the Brecon Beacons National Park, there are of course heaps of fabulous walking routes around. A good place to start for ideas is the visitor centre 20 minutes’ walk away, and it’s also possible to head straight out from the farm to locations like Fan Frynych mountain or Craig Cerrig-gleisiad nature reserve – both of which are about an hour and 15 minutes away on foot. Time your strolls to bring you to Mynydd Illtyd Common late in the day, as it’s often treated to some spectacular sunsets. Other popular hiking spots nearby include the fabulous Four Falls Walk (25 minutes’ drive) and Craig-y-Nos Country Park (20 minutes). You might also like to tackle a climb of Pen y Fan (15 minutes) or head to Llangorse Lake (20 minutes) for a day of watersports. For a break from all this activity, head to Brecon (15 minutes) for a tour of the cathedral and Regimental Museum of The Royal Welsh, go underground at the National Showcaves Centre for Wales (20 minutes) or take a couple of drams of Welsh whisky on a tour of Penderyn Distillery (20 minutes).
