Sunny, level premier pitches at rockbridge park

  • Peaceful escape in a dark skies community on the Welsh border
  • Riverside setting a mile from the market town of Presteigne
  • Dog-friendly site; stargazing dome with telescope
Sitting alongside the River Lugg and with views of the hills, Rockbridge Park is a super spot for a relaxing break away from busy everyday life. This small family-run site on the Wales-England border is within easy reach of days out around the countryside, plus the villages and towns of Powys and beyond.
When not roaming the region, spend time lying back on site with your nose in a book, fishing in the river or setting off on strolls nearby. Even a wander around the site has its rewards – look out for the dragonfly and wind sculptures, then relax by the waterfall while you take in the views. Four-legged friends are welcome to join you here too – they’ll be able to scamper around at the secure dog walk or accompany you on one of the many trails running from the park. And don’t worry about them getting into muddy puddles – a dog wash back on site will take care of that. Facilities for human guests are nicely thought out too, with wifi, hot showers, a launderette and a fridge among the provisions. The highlight, however, surely has to be the stargazing dome – kitted out with a telescope and bean bags, it’s a great spot to take advantage of Rockbridge being in a ‘dark skies community’. Heading out, it’s a five-minute drive to Presteigne, a traditional Welsh market town with a good selection of pubs, restaurants, takeaways, cafés and shops (most of them dog-friendly). For other places to visit nearby, chat to the team on site – they’ve always got lots of top tips to dish out.

What customers say

Rockbridge Park gets top marks for its stunning riverside spot, chill vibe and sparkling clean site. Reviewers love the friendly staff, tidy pitches and great facilities like the dog wash and stargazing dome. Powered grass and gravel caravan site

Liked The site is well maintained. The pitches are a good size and although it was busy it didn't feel cramped.
The facilities are clean and well maintained. 2 showers in the ladies plus 2 in the mens. There are 2 seperate family shower rooms.
We had a grass and gravel electric pitch which also had a tap.
We heard that the tv reception was not very good however we didn't have any issues.
Wifi was good.
We didn't try the dome for stargazing.

Disliked Nothing.

Liked Facilities were immaculate! Several showers lots of toilet access. Fridges and freezers for campers use. WiFi all over the camp which was awesome for kids tablet time. Right by the river, lovely views of the sheep, cows.
So many close by walks you can go on. Lovely time in the forest! Closest shop was coOp and premier, both only 6min drive.
On the Saturday there was a burger van which was amazing! The starlight dome was wonderful. So dark at night the views were spectacular! 100% be coming back for another visit, maybe not right next to river next time though. Too many weird bugs.

Disliked Just the weird bugs.

Liked Lovely peaceful site! Fully booked but still had a chilled vibe. Our children loved splashing in the river. Staff were really helpful in accommodating our request to change pitch to be closer to our friends who were staying in a lodge on site.

Powered grass site (riverside)

Liked The park offers really good site with close proximity to the river and is kept well. Each space is well kept with lots of space. The River Lugg running though was a delight.

Disliked One family ruined it for everyone playing music until 1:30am and shouting at each other with total lack of respect for the site rules of 10am curfew.

Perhaps more fees required to ensureHigher cost is known to attract intentional campers: families, hikers, or retirees who are willing to pay a premium specifically for maintenance, clean luxury facilities, and natural beauty. The site is more of a beauty countryside quiet family venue for walkers and enjoyment of life, than a party site

Also, better facilities requires for young such as playground and football goals away from expensive motorhomes and caravans.

Greek food visiting van wasn't good quality.

Would stay here again if the strategy around the camping above was addressed. It feels more preventative design is needed. Eviction before refund after signing to site rules would be an option.

From the manager: Good Afternoon Ricki,

Thank you for your review, We were aware of the noise disturbance and addressed this as soon as you raised the issue with us. We always try to be as inclusive as possible to all parties, but will address problems if they occur. We take on your feedback in regards to activities and are always open at exploring new ideas if possible. It is a shame that you have scored us low when the issue was with a party rather than the site itself, but we appreciate your comments.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Liked the toilet and shower block. very clean and well laid out. Very clean site. The tent section was right at the bottom of the site with a stream at the bottom (open access to this) so people with young kids might not like this. (at worst 30cm deep at our time of visiting) but son is 9 and got told he had to have grownup each time to play at water.
Dog field for those with pets
Son loved the observation dome....
Hopefully somebody liked the stones we decorated and left there.
We would go again, but a designated play area would have made it a 10/10 site
No road noise.
Love a flat pitch with easy ground!!

Disliked Felt like the small area we camped in was a afterthought..... here we have a small space (what can we do with it) There was plenty of space for us, but only 1 other tent in the area at the time. (think 8 pitches max)
Dog friendly site, caused some noise issues with one dog barking each morning about 7am. Just depends on your fellow campers at the time

Local attractions

Presteigne is a compact spot but it’s well worth swinging by for a look at The Judge's Lodging, an award-winning museum five minutes’ drive away that gives an insight into the grandeur of the masters’ lives on the top floors versus the servants who lived down below. Not so much further on is Knighton (10 minutes) with its community and arts centres for rainy days, along with a local railway link and access to Glyndŵr's Way for wanders along a path named after a Welsh legend. Another 10 minutes (20 from the park) from there is the Small Breeds Farm Park and Owl Centre for a glimpse of animals ranging from miniature horses to nocturnal birds. Top towns are scattered around this rural region too: think Leominster (30 minutes away) for sights like grand Berrington Hall (40 minutes) with its views over to the Black Mountains; the famed book and festival town of Hay-on-Wye (35 minutes); or Ludlow to see the castle and Tudor buildings or peruse posh boutiques (40 minutes).
