Solo sorts, families, couples and most of all anglers… come and get sorted at serene and scenic Burton Springs, for a super stay in a Somerset wildlife haven. This peaceful place is at the foot of the Quantock Hills and a nifty base for getting out around the Quantocks, the west Somerset and Exmoor coastline, and smashing Somerset settings like Cheddar Gorge and Glastonbury Abbey, both under 20 miles away. And if your group are fisherfolk? Cast off on site in the three handsome and well-stocked lakes: there's one each of coarse fishing, carp fishing and cat fishing to keep all angling enthusiasts hooked. Please note that fishing is subject to additional charges and must be booked in advance. (Non-fisherfolk have plenty of wildlife to see, walks to wander and quiet spots in which to hide with a book or three.) Burton Springs is well kept all round by its friendly family team, who've added a spankingly clean shower and washroom as well as a washing-up area for guests' use. There's also a games room for all ages, with table football and a dartboard, a selection of board games, DVDs and reading material, and a small play area in the pitching field with a pirate ship, climbing walls, slides and a basket swing. Food and drinks are available to buy in the site shop.

  • Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.
  • The campground/park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dog Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).
  • Facilities/activities including fishing are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.
  • Reception is unmanned after 5 p.m.. Please inform the campground while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time so that the team can provide information about your unit/site.
  • At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.
  • A cable measuring at least 25 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.
  • Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

A well-kept, friendly spot with roomy, flat sites & great, clean facilities. Guests loved the honesty shop, games room & dog park. Fishing's a big draw, with fish in good nick. Quiet, peaceful location near walks & coast. Minor points: slow taps & limited shop stock didn't spoil it.

Liked Lovely site run by lovely people.
Nice big pitches with plenty of space between other campers.
The fishing was excellent. My 7yo son caught so many good size carp he was so excited.
There’s an honesty shop on site stocked with essentials snacked and locally produced ready meals. Also some fishing tackle and bait.

If you want booze or bigger items there’s a spar about a mile away.

Definitely going back this summer for another few nights

Power optional grass tent site

Liked Well marked out, flat and spacious pitches with table and bench. Very important when backpacking! The small shop on site for basic provisions. A games room which also had a kettle and microwave and charging points for phone. Plenty of toilets and showers.

Liked We stayed in a bell tent and we absolutely loved it!
The tent was comfortable and had everything we needed. Shower/toilet facilities were great and liked the honesty shop. We'd love to come back!

Disliked smell around toilet area was quiet strong of faeces and ground area was significantly hard, appeared to be due a water? was hard to get our pegs in. Also- in very close proximity to other campers with very little privacy.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. Yes all the grounds do need a water, but we cant just use a hose, as we are 12achres , we need rain, which there has been none of for weeks and also we’ve had 3 extreme heat waves.
Also we are not on mains sewage and on our own water supply, which includes water treatment plants, which stop working if people don’t read the signs and put wet wipes, nappies and sanitary products done them.
We work very hard to try and keep everything working as it should but nature and people don’t make it easy

Super site for a short break & great ice cream in small on site shop.

Liked Lovely quiet, tranquil site.
Well kept with all facilities kept very clean.
Close to lovely stretch of N Somerset coastline (Kilve beach, Watchet and Dunster).

Lotus bell tent (family)

Liked Our bell tent was brilliant! Thoughtfully decorated and equipped with everything we needed. Beds were comfortable and the fairy lights were a lovely touch! Appreciated the picnic bench to accompany the fire pit too. Toilets and showers were clean, the whole site is beautiful with the lake to walk around. Check in was easy and the honesty shop is fab. Loved the dog play area too, much appreciated!

Disliked Shame that the children’s playground closes at 6pm but I can see why in terms of consideration to others.

Local attractions

Burton Springs' closest chunk of coast is at Burnham-On-Sea about seven and a half miles away. Seaside resort Weston-super-Mare is a few miles further along the coast from Burnham; for the Exmoor coastline, stretches of shoreline and sand like Kilve, Dunster, Minehead and Porlock are a short drive in the other direction. The South West Coast Path, Britain's longest long-distance path, starts from Minehead on its epic 630 miles via the coasts of Devon and Cornwall to finish up at Poole Harbour in Dorset. If this is a tad too much, other hikes around the region include the Quantock Hills, England's first National Landscape; Brean Down, a Site of Special Scientific Interest managed by the National Trust, and the Mendip Hills, also a National Landscape and home to splendidly spectacular Cheddar Gorge. The Burton team also reckons guests should take a look at the small wildlife and adventure park Tropiquaria, the National Trust's Dunster Castle and Fyne Court, the Bakelite Museum at Wilton, the RSPB reserve at Greylake, and the rides and attractions of Brean Leisure Park. Paintballing is available at Cannington Park, nearby at Bridgwater.
