What customers say

A top family spot near Charmouth & Lyme Regis. Reviews love the clean loos, roomy pitches & helpful staff. Kids rave about the pools & play zones. Mostly brilliant, but a few noted road noise and busy periods.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked The views were stunning beautiful hillsides in the distance surrounded by trees and nature, the facilities were good, hot water, good size showers and toilets. Swimming pool, shop etc and many other facilities that we didn’t use

Disliked No mention of camping on a hill on the website so we were sliding in the tent most of the time, cooking was hard as everything just kept sliding down. Not all pitches are on a hill though some are flat, washing up area the taps could do with being fully running rather than having to push down every 10 seconds, no plugs either so bring your own bowl or you have to multitask with the tap and washing at the same time

Liked Bar and shop were good, we didn’t eat but menu looked good

Disliked Check in staff were a little vague, Gents shower and toilet block needs a lot of reinvestment.

Gravel strips in front of the porches need to be tarmac like the other roads as everything is covered in dust.

A35 was much closer than realised and very noisy.

Washing up sinks are very shallow and no plugs are supplied as well as the horrible push taps (feels like we can’t be trusted with normal ones)

Liked Location is excellent for local Charmouth beach and bus rides to beautiful Lyme Regis and Weymouth amongst other places to visit.

Disliked Showers were really poor between old units, water going cold after a minute. The washing units are public and not separate units. They were cleaned regularly but the experience would be so much better if they were upgraded.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Nice site, good size pitches. Play park was great and little soft play area.
Swimming pool was great both indoor and outdoor pools. Location is good for lots of different days out.
Food in the restaurant was lovely.

Disliked Toilet and shower blocks, whilst clean are in need of some work, toilets didn't always flush, facilities looking very worn out.
Same with mini arcades, machines were very old and didn't always work.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Swimming pool - although the indoor pool is £3.50 per session.

Children's playground.

Bus stop outside the campsite to Lyme Regis.

Very friendly and helpful staff in the leisure centre.

Clean facilities in wash block.

Disliked Dreadful and I mean DREADFUL pitches. One of worst I've ever stayed on. MINISCULE to the point where I couldn't extend guy ropes of my small 4 man tent in order to fit my small car and tent on the pitch (no alternative parking was offered).

Ground is hard and rocky. Good luck getting your pegs in. I was wielding my mallet like Thor's hammer and stones and gravel made it impossible.

Pitches were poorly maintained- scrubby grass and an extremely strong and disgusting smell of dog wee that has completely permeated my tent to the point I'm not sure it is salvageable after 3 nights on the pitch from hell.

Very noisy atmosphere until late at night. Lots of groups of adults and their children, parents drinking at the tent while children run around pitches noisily until 10pm at the earliest. I like kids and camp with my own son but this is not a good vibe and makes it very hard for other kids to sleep.

Proximity to A35 makes for a lot of road noise.

£51 pounds per night for all of the above - WITHOUT electric hookup!

Local attractions

Charmouth is the gateway to the Jurassic Coast and has some of the best fossils to be found in Dorset: the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre has fossil collections and guided fossil walks and is where you can proudly bring in your very own fossil find to be identified. The beach is a 15-minute walk from Newlands: stroll from here to Lyme Regis keeping your head down for more fossily finds, then wander around Lyme to take a look at Cobb Harbour (made famous in Jane Austen’s Persuasion); buy freshly ground flour at the 14th-century watermill; amble along to at the ammonites, exhibitions and events at the museum, or tee off on the cliff at Lyme Regis Golf Club. Mini fossil-hunters will likely be monster fans of the award-winning Dinosaur Museum at Dorchester, and taking a detour while in town to the Teddy Bear Museum. If they’re watery types, they’ll have a whale of a time at the Splashdown Water Park in Poole and the walk-through underwater tunnel at the Bournemouth Oceanarium. Closer to Newlands and Dino Dan, families can see zebras and meerkats at the Axe Valley Wildlife Park, trundle along on the Seaton Tramway for a scenic trip through the estuary of the River Axe, or feed a shoal of fish at Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium.
