  • Old-fashioned site in Dawlish Warren with modern facilities
  • A 15- to 25-minute walk to the beach, dunes and nature reserve
  • Seven acres of grassland in a secluded setting
Old-style camping with new-style facilities, minutes from the Devon coastline and a 500-acre nature reserve stuffed with species of all sorts… You might want two weeks at least at Leadstone Camping in Dawlish Warren. This very friendly site, which has been around since 1974, is one of those where the staff do their utmost to make sure guests have as good a time as possible. Although this is a traditional and uncommercialised site, the standards are modern. Amenities stretch to a redeveloped amenities block with hot showers, toilets, basins, a hairdryer, a baby changing unit and an accessible room with a shower, toilet and wash basin. Leadstone also has a launderette, playground, washing-up facilities and water points in the pitching fields. For other supplies and food, a supermarket is a mile away. Anyone walking the 10 minutes to Dawlish Warren will find a pub serving lunch and evening meals handily placed along the way.

What customers say

A well-kept site with roomy, tidy spots & top-notch loos/showers. Friendly, helpful staff. Handy for the beach & transport. Most loved it, a few noted slopes, paid Wi-Fi, & noise. Highly recommended for a chill holiday.

Badger powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site (large)

Liked We stayed here 2 months ago in low season, at the time I wondered how well the shower/ toilet facilities would cope when the site was full. I needn't have worried, all were always clean and well maintaned and the water was always very hot, good for washing up and showers. The staff are always helpful and cheerful.
Amanda's 'cafe' on site was great for coffee ice creams and breakfast or early evening food. Leadstone is in an excellent position for walking to Dawlish or Dawlish Warren and there are hourly buses stopping right outside the site for trips farther afield.

Disliked Only problem was paid £20 for a weeks site wifi, but it often failed and at times there was no g4 or g5 either

Badger powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site (large)

Liked We have been to this campsite 7 times now over the last 10 years and I have never been disappointed. The facilities are very clean and staff are very friendly. There is also an hot food trailer and shop in reception. There is also a play park for the kids. The beach is in walking distance down a hill.

Disliked Hedging along every pitches would make it more private, but we use wind breaks for this at the moment.

Owl powered grass caravan site (XL)

Liked Lovely site with generous pitches. Super polite and friendly staff.
Take a long hook up lead as some pitches are not by a hook up point.
Stayed in Owl field which was close to the entrance and not too far from the toilet/shower block.

Regular bus service into Dawlish and down to Dawlish Warren. Doesn’t take too long to walk to the beach and all the facilities there.

Disliked Noise from the children’s play area can be a bit much, especially before 8am

Local attractions

Leadstone Camping's location makes it easy to get to most of Devon's attractions and it's simple to get from the site to wherever takes your fancy. Roads are relatively quiet for most of the year apart from in high season. Dawlish Warren is a top place to be in Devon, partly for its safe, clean beach and partly for its sand dunes leading onto 500-acre Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve, a hugely popular spot with birdwatchers and botanists. On foot, walk to the Warren (it's a safe stroll and suitable for prams) or to the South West Coast Path within 15 minutes; it's also half a mile to the Exe Cycle Trail or the circular six-mile Dawlish Discovery Walk. A mile away is the Exe estuary – another top local spot and a hit for fishing, hiking, biking and birdwatching – and the town of Dawlish itself is a mile and a half away: look out for the famous black swans. Also nearby is the harbour and two good pubs at Cockwood, two and a half miles away, and golf at Starcross before taking the ferry from here to Exmouth. Shaldon, seven miles away, has another golf course and can be reached by ferry from the busy resort of Teignmouth. For towns, take off to Exminster (nine miles; more golf), Torquay (10 miles), Newton Abbot (11 miles; racecourse and ancient market), Exeter (13 miles) and Paignton (13 miles; take the steam railway from here to Kingswear and Dartmouth).
